Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Hey Simeon I see you have fitted the Eibach ARB, I have one and am trying to fit to my car at the moment, 1990 1.8CL but having difficulty. Which drop links you use? I have G60 ones with Powerflex polybush. The ARB is fouling my wishbones wonder if you have any tips or ideas? The subframe is completly off the car.
Thanks
Simon

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Standard droplinks with the eibach bushes in them, you can't use G60 ones as they are a different shape.
Quite an obvious visual difference;
G60

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Yeah I know they are different and I can see that, also because I have both! The G60 fitted better then the standard, which I tried first and the ARB still touched the wishbones. So I tried the G60 ones, they fitted better however the ARB contacted the wishbones still. I was wondering if maybe there was a different link used on the MK2 GTi jetta then a non GTi.
Hey ho I'll keep trying, will fit the subframe back to the car and see if all together it makes a difference.
Thanks for the info

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Drop links across all mk2 models are the same, except for the G60 ones as you know. Either you're fitting it upside down (unlikely I know ) or you have a mk3 golf one which will not fit on your Jetta. Compare it to the standard one you took off, should obviously be exactly the same except for thicker.

Thanks for the advice dude. I would love to compare my old ARB to the new Eibach one but the reason I got the Eibach one was because my old one was nicked As I don't have a garage I keep parts in my bedroom and car on the drive. To save space and the carpet I had a few bits in my boot whilst I was waiting to work on them. However some joker broke into the boot (not hard to do and now I can "unlock" my boot with a t-spoon) and took the bits I had in there. I can only imagine he was looking for maybe stereo equipment but took my spare wheel, jack, wheel toolkit and ARB. Knob!
I was thinking about getting the Eibach ARB but not sure so then had my decision made for me haha. Unfortunately now having a few problems with it.

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Cheers guys, problem was that the flywheel was too close to pressure plate rendering the clutch inoperable. Had the clutch ground to resolve the problem and on the bright side it has removed all the hot spots

Got the gearbox all bolted in then set about sorting the boost hoses from the charger

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Got a job recently so only made a little progress. Done a bit more today, token photo to prove I've been in the garage
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Jobs to do;
-Fit o/s caliper and bleed the brakes.
-Clean and fit throttle body.
-Fit radiator and adjust right hand side bracket (had to move the radiator one hole (on the crossmember) to the left due to intercooler so doesn't line up).
-Fit intercooler and make two brackets to mount it to the radiator.
-Fit intercooler pipework to throttle body.
-Put some oil in it, prime it.
-See if it starts

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Cheers bud
Shockingly, a small update. Getting a bit ridiculous really, should've finished this weeks ago!
A previous owner had a stainless exhaust system fitted and they bolted it through the boot floor for some reason, result --> ripped a hole in it a little while ago, so welded that up;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also decided to port out the throttle body a little to improve the flow by a miniscule amount
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It's sorta close now

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Been a long time since the last update!
Brakes are giving me trouble, can't get a pedal, just goes to the floor
Decided to make the brackets for the intercooler;
It fits nicely on the cross-member on the n/s;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Had to make a bracket for the o/s;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Bracket to attach the intercooler to the radiator, just need to weld the two pieces together;

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Good to see your're still making progress mate, how did you bleed the brakes? pumping the pedal can cause problems with the main seal inside the master cylinder giving the soft pedal you described and MK4 rear calipers are supposed to be right pita to bleed as well

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Cheers mate, how's your jetta these days?
Been trying to bleed them with a pressure bleeder, although one of the ones at the cheaper end, but never had any difficulty with it before. Using mk4 rears, but again, I fitted these a while ago and they bled up fine last time.
I think the problem is basically down to the master cylinder, I'm using an Audi 23.8mm one (as I'm using S2 twin pot front brakes) which I've read is a direct fit, but when I compared it to the mk2 22mm one I decided it needed a spacer plate (between it and the servo) so put a 2mm one in.
They bleed fine and the pedal is initally firm, but if you pump it it just goes lower until it hits the floor (4/5 pumps of the pedal) and stays there.
Next step is to remove the spacer I guess, although was hoping to hear from someone else who has actually fitted one - I put a post on edition yesterday.

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Brakes are bled and progress has been made, took Friday off work and got a bit done;
First up, set about getting the cam out;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Piper 285 in (obviously you can see the difference )
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Modified the slam panel to fit around the intercooler;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Bracket welded, painted and fitted;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Had to move the radiator over so no longer lines up with the slam panel;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Sorted;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Refurbed the starter motor;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Random shots;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also fitted the bumper, then turned the key
.............
Nothing not even a splutter, so gave up for the day.
Ultimate Dubs spured me on a bit, stripped the loom back and found a slight issue...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Fired up first turn of the key after sorting that
Only problem now is that I have an unwrapped loom draped over my engine will get that sorted and see how it drives, surprisingly idled rather nicely this evening

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
It's taxed, insured and had its first proper run out today It pulls really well, although it is pretty noisy. There was a lot of vibration in the cabin, which I think was partly due to the poly gearbox mount, so I pulled it out this evening and replaced it with a standard one. Also collected my new bumper yesterday, so it's finally back to being all red!
