my new 'daily - mk1 jetta
been looking for a daily lately to stop ramping the miles up on my bora. i'd been looking at lupo's and a few other things when i saw an ad on here for a mk1 jetta for sale
summary was mk1 jetta, 4 door, red, 6n 1.4 lump on bike carbs also has coilys and 14 x 8 banded steels. the pic in the ad sold it for me, it was up for £1400 as an unfinished project. spoke to him about the car and made an offer that he accepted.
arrangements were made to make the trip up to brum and collect it on thursday evening, after a few dramas and traffic along the way we finally made it there. i viewed the car and was happy with it and was as described, payed the man and started loading it onto the truck which proved hard work in itself. even with planks and blocks i managed to catch the front valance on the ramp.
got it unloaded and back at mine at around 10pm last night, i jumped in and drove it down my street, by the time i'd got to the end of my street it had emptied all the water out of the left hand side of the engine. i parked it up and decided to take today off work and investigate.
the car was sold as unfinished project and hadn't been driven so not at all blaming the seller.
so got up and whacked it on the drive and took a few snaps

i started stripping bits of the engine as i wanted to redo a few bits

next was to investigate the water leak, after stripping the 6n mount off, cambelt cover and belt

after getting the bits out of the way, the cause of the leak became clear, the pump seal had died and was throwing it out the side.

i'll put pics of the bits i wanted to redo;

i also fully rewired the engine loom, removed alot of extra wires soldered all joints and heatwrapped them all, re routed some of the loom, moved the ignition amp.

also grabbed a 6n alternator loom and ran it round the sump and modified the loom to go on the starter

popped over to a mates house and grabbed some bits off his mk1 gti
