Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Cheers
Just popped in for a cuppa mid electric window fitting so thought I'd stick a couple of pics up of todays progress;
A good friend popped round to sort out my engine loom, before;

After (wrapped and labelled)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Finished rolling and sealing the arches, then layed down some fresh Tornado red. Also fitted the brake compensator and all the new rear brake lines along with the Goodridge hoses. Tomorrow the Mk3 fuel tank can go in and I'll put the suspension and plastic arches back on, followed by the interior

Didn't get too much time on it today, but did get the electric windows fitted and put my new door cards in, they're genuine electric window ones which is a nice touch

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Thanks very much
Brakes are sorted (for now) and finished refitting the arches etc. Eibach anti-roll-bar makes a massive difference to the handling

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
The interior trim you mean? Bought it off a guy on here.
Did a few jobs today, managed to get hold of a boot seal in good condition so fitted that. Also, bought a new timing light as mine died a little while ago so thought I check out the timing on the Jetta as its never run right .. glad I did.
Pic below shows how far out it was! Supposed to be set to the 6deg btdc mark, but some muppet had set it to about 20deg atdc!! Needless to say runs much more smoothly now

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Another afternoon under the car today, but more on that later. Have been spending a few pennies this week, mostly on tyres - Yokohama AD08s;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
These are the wheels they're going on - very rare 6.5j x 15" forged Le Castellets
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Not much clearance over the S2 brakes though, going to put some 3mm spacers in;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
So, on with todays efforts. Firstly I pulled out the front crossmember to fit a poly front mount. Old;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
New;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
In place;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also fitted the front Eibach anti roll bar .. absolute barsteward of a job!!! Won't be doing another one without dropping the whole subframe to the floor that's for sure. Before;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
After;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also shot blasted another pair of mk4 rear calipers so I can paint them red to match the fronts. They came up nicely, but unfortunately on one side the seals were knackered (hadn't noticed before) so going to strip them bare and prob get them powder coated for longevity. Before;

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Cheers dude, yeah it's a floflex mount, got the other two as well which I'll fit when I drop the other engine in.
Noticable engine vibration on start up, literally as it kicks in to life, but better throttle response so happy with it

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Yeah, I imagine the vibrations are a bit annoying for a daily, but hopefully the throttle response on a G60 will be worth it
You leave your car for one night in a vaguely public place and this happens Not happy, but it is only a daily and hopefully it'll polish out - going to have a go at it on Saturday.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
On a brighter note, the wheels look ok, although a little shiney for the dented, scratched and unwashed apperance of the Jetta at the moment

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
I quote "Ive been wanting a new daily for a while now" And "Eibach anti-roll-bar makes a massive difference to the handling" OH and lets not forget "Taking it on a track day on the 31st so only fitted the front seats for now" LMFAO! Daily my arse! Love your work as always bud keep it up.
Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Haha, yeah fair point Been to Castle Combe, Teesside Autodrome and Blyton Park now
This was from Teesside;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Not actually done much to the car recently. The scratch polished out so was pleased about that and I have fitted the rest of the interior too. The only problem with the interior is that the passenger front seat sits very high for some reason. I don't know if this is because the seats are from a pre 90spec car or whether they are just like that, but I'm thinking of getting a drivers side base with the height adjustment and swapping the material over (if this is possible, not actually looked into it yet) so that passengers don't spend all their time banging their head on the headlining
I will be putting the G60 engine together over the next couple of weeks and hopefully it will be fitted in time for a day out at Castle Combe on the 2nd August. If anyone else is interested in that then have a look on Apex's website for details and also for other venues and dates - I'll be at Donnington on the 21st July for the evening too, would be good to see some other Jettas there

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Nice action pic bud, I have the same problem with my passenger seat which is post 90 spec don't think its possible with another drivers base beacuse of the slider adjustment being on the wrong side as is the seatbelt but then it might be possible with the base from a corrado seat think an ebay hunt is in order

Re: Jetta Gti .. new daily
Done a little bit, note to self... must do more!!
Decided to strip the old paint off the charger casing, the silver paint G-werks put on it a couple of years ago has not stood the test of time well
Before;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
After;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The poor quality paint made it easy to strip off at least Couldn't have done it without this little attachment;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Will get some paint on it tomorrow.

Got hold of two of the seals that are obsolete from vw.
Rear charger mount;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Side blanking plate, have a spare if anyone needs one;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also found someone to powdercoat the last few bits so will drop them off Monday and engine should be back together next week (finally!)
