Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
Ant wouldn't it ruin it's authenticity a little by putting a VR in not to mention all the work your letting yourself in for, you brave man. Anyway good luck with it if thats what your doing the VR is a much quicker engine. If I find any good deals on a donnor will let you know straight away.

Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
i'm with tom on the authenticity bit. but... with the sound of a vr and the looks of the car you'd defo be onto a winner mate
Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
Get on with the VR mod Ant..... We can go through the pain together!!! I'm on the look out for a good Mk2 Jetta or Golf and a Mk3 VR6 doner too. Now we've finished Adi's Monza Valver i'm gettin bored! LOL

Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
Sorry have to agree with ady and t-jett i couldnt bring myself to put a VR in her you worked so hard to keep her authentic it seems a shame, any hoo good luck with which ever path you chose we are all different thats what makes the seen so good.
Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
Just buy PAB's engine if he wants out, that is a peach [hoping I haven't missed something!]
Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
personly i think it would be a shame to slap a vr in her as its a special car and would be a shame to ruin the authenticty

Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
oh i think ive split the groupe here
I always intended to keep the whole car original or returnable to original. once the engine has been removed it will definately be rebuilt and painted it will then be stored (not sold or scrapped) im also getting a new interior for the car aswell to be retrimmed so that i can remove th original and store it before it can be damaged anymore.
Basicly what im trying to do is keep all the original stuff tip top and safe so that it can always be returned to the car it once was.
I must stress i will never modify the exterior from its orriginal spec due to its rarety

Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
Ant, if you're still thinking about the vr6 route, I sold my old golf mk3 vr6 to a lad last year and he's blown 5th gear, it's just sat on his drive now gathering dust as he's got another car, it's a k plated 5 door with about 120k with plenty of history, he did mention it to me and i don't think he wants a lot for it, i can pass you his number if you're interested?

Re: Ants 86 Jetta GTi Engineering with a twist
what did yoiu decide to do in the end? Theres always a few 8vs to be found and quite a few that have been modified. I plan to keep my original engine and then get a period GTI Eng spec head and cam for it- 135bhp will be fine in something like this
