Re: PAB's Track car.
This motors got all the right bits! Going to be very naughty on the track.
I've been trying to find a mk4 for mine but people are relutant to split from complete boxes and by themselves they fetch strong money.
I'll have to keep my eye out for one of those shifters now too!

Re: PAB's Track car.
Not made up my mind totally on the ignition yet its still at the thinking stage... watch this space soon. There could be an Omex mappable ignition system in the offing too.
The shifter was another Ebay bargain at £35.00, same as B&M shifter but £100.00 cheeper, its for the post 2000 model year shifter so make sure you get the correct one. Search the bay for "vw short shift" should come up....
The shifter tower was more troublesome, only got it because the Golf its off was Soooo bad the gear casing was split and recovery driver who towed it to the breakers had cut the cables to get it out of gear and removed the gate lever. Found the lever & clip in the glove box and asked the bloke for a price without telling him i'd found it. £20.00 yeay

Re: PAB's Track car.
Seems like I spend as much time in the garage as I do at work recently!!
Finally finished the wide track mods (See tech advice threads), just have to have the tracking sorted then I can turn full attention to the engine build and gearbox/shifter install..... still waiting for the pistons and rods.
Jay I'm gonna use the KR dizzy from my current set-up as I'm using the KR ignition, just had to re-drill & tap the ABF head so I can get enough advance.
Philip.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Yeay!!! got these babies today, along with the rest of my engine bits. The Flywheel is now lightened and balanced with the new VR6 clutch and the crank. The crank has been polished too. Have to give a big shout to Geoff @ Autosprint near Birmingham for sorting out all of the engineering. Check out his advert in PPC Mag and his web site....

Re: PAB's Track car.
Been busy again this Sunday, just getting everything ready for the final assemble on my engine. built a simple sump baffle to stop oil starvation on track. Had to build it onto the windage tray as the sump pan is alloy and I can'y weld that yet.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
One from inside the sump, should do the trick keeping lots of lovely oil near the pick up pipe.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Just back from having the wheel alignment done this morning, very pleased with the service from the people i've been to see.
Nottingham Car 4 Wheel Alignment, Basford, Nottm.
They have a guy called Mick who used to set-up Renault 5 Race cars.... very good.

All ready for the tear down to fit the new engine, gerabox and shifter set up...... I'm off out to the garage, I might be some time!!

Re: PAB's Track car.
Got stuck in this afternoon, pulled all the interior out and the dash, want to lower the steering columb and need to run the new shifter cables through the bulkhead, also need to weld up the hole where the old shifter is and build the new shifter mounting.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also pulled everything out of the engine bay, ready to drop the engine and gearbox in the morning.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Off to the pub now.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Thanks Andrew.
Done a bit more tonight....
Fitted the new shifter mount into the car, just needs painting to finish off, the gear shift is awsome... precise and fast. Could not be more happy with it.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Once again boys, thanks for your kind words.... keeps me going!
Finally got my hands on these bad boys, Itegrated Engineering Con Rods from Salt Lake City, U S of A..... complete with ARP2000 bolts. The final link in my engine chain.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Engine build Sunday is looming
Found the new (12month old, 250 Track miles) Brake load sensor is weeping from the bellows .... Sounds like a great excuse to fit a brake bias lever and move the brake pipes inside..... Gonna have to move into my garage full time to get sorted for Ultimate Dubs.

Re: PAB's Track car.
i know it should take me a day or two really, the last time i fitted my coilovers it took me 15mins to jack the car up put it on stands, removed the rear suspension replace, screw back together and drop back down again with the help of my brother. so hopefully i can do it something like that again this time the fronts will be the pita!
im also going to be swapping rear bumper arm, fitting sunroof interior cover, polishing my alloys and giving the car a good wax should weather be on my side. plus anything else ive been putting off which ive just remembered got to fit the new HID box's for the rallye lights and oder a connector for them. oh yeah and take the rubber off my azev a's so i can have them refurbished, oh yeah and attempt to fit the 280's finally..... probably more to do lol
edit.... oh yeah have to fit the 90 sec number plate tub too lol

Re: PAB's Track car.
Thanks for your kind words Ant, just doing what I love doin thats all.....
This is the state of play at mine today.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Todays bits,
Been suffering with a long brake pedal on track days so thats whats driven the bias valve instead of a load sensor. I fitted a GSF 22mm master cylinder early in the project, but i've thought it might be the cause of the long pedel for a while.... so this went on today, along with re-fitting the front brake pipes.
Brand new genuine ATE master cylinder, aluminium no less, it better be worth it!!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also mounted the bias valve, the brake pipes are ordered for it, collecting them tomorrow so watch this space.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Wow, what a day... 14 hours hard at it.... theres not enough hours in a day for this project at the mo....
Started by removing the plastic arches and cutting back the steel wheel arches to let the Toyo track rubber clear when i'm pushing on, then trimmed down te plastic and re-fitted them.
Collected the brake pipes for the bias valve, only to find they have the wrong fittings on them I'll sort them tomorrow!!
Then moved onto more pleasurable activities... Engine build Sunday, I've got all of the bottom end together along with the flywheel and clutch.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooo tired, can't wait to get it in the car, should be nearly there for the end of the week.
