Re: PAB's Track car.
Been on the rollers today, all smiles. No power figures yet, just a run to set up the carbs, ign timing and check the mixtures.
Gonna need bigger main jets, mid range is spot on for mixture, but when it starts to get near 7000rpm its gonna be lean.
Big shout to Pat at Basford Dyno Tune in Nottm. another top top bloke, known him years and he tuned my drag race Beetle for me. AHHH great memories of that... all gone now though.
See ya all at Santa Pod.
PS anyone know of any private land or roads I can run my car on to bed the engine in????

Re: PAB's Track car.
After the rush up to UD its been a little quiet around here... Done a little more this morning. Fitted a new wideband AFR sensor in the exhaust and Guage in the car so I can keep tabs on the fuel mixture and make sure the new engines safe.

See you at the POD, not sure if i'll have the car there yet.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Still keep finding little bits to do...
Fitted a new Radiator this week, its a little bit bigger than the other...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
...Like the full width of the engine bay bigger, hadn't realised when I ordered it. I've had to move the oil cooler, cooler pipes, engine breather catch tank & pipe and totally re-plumb it with new pipes... mind you, it does hold 1.5ltrs of coolant more than the old 16v one. Its from a 1600cc Turbo Diesel Mk2 Golf.

Its massive!!

Re: PAB's Track car.
Hi all, just a little update.
Think my car hates me!!?
Having lavished all of my spare waking hours and cash on her, and getting good results from the dyno session last week she has decided that its time for the ignition system to expire....
Her personality is rather High Maintenance at the moment.
Spent two days fault finding the ignition to find the problem was in the TCI (Spark Controller) and the coil, probably due to running the wrong spark plugs when the engine was first run. (ABF ignition uses resistor plugs, but I'm still using the KR ignition).
Anyway, I've decided to junk the Dizzy and have ordered an Omex 200 mappable engine managment system for carb set-ups and a Ford (sorry) Zetec twin coil pack. The usual pics will follow.
See ya soon.
Philip.

Re: PAB's Track car.
My new engine ECU turned up today, along with a throttle position sensor, new crank sensor, wiring loom, coil pack and all the plug to make up the loom.
Omex 200 ECU for carbs, looks neat hope it works!! LOL!
Stripped the old ignition out, gonna blank off the dizzy hole in the head.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Made a mount to fit the ECU on the floor infront of the passenger seat.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This is where it'll fit, mounted on sticky backed velcro so it can be removed during mapping sessions.

More later....

Few pics for you Pablos:

Management looks nice - what did that set you back? PM me if you don't want to shout out loud
Mines on the rollers as i speak (or type!)
I think my car is metrosexual - sometimes its thoroughly greatful for all the effort i put in, othertimes its a biatch and never ending story of problems - bit like most of the women i tend to meet
Whilst playing with the tracking, found out the steering arm is bent so thats another job to do - swear i'd be rich if i didn't mess with these money pits, sorry, cars!
