Ok, here we are...

Rather swiss cheese LOL
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Cut down Rad cross member, welded to the front engine cross member, the rad is 80mm lower and 50mm further forward, its also square across the car rather than the std. angle.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
New ali air duct.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also had a new quick release steering boss and new ali. racing seat, mega comfy, oh and also re-shaped and adjusted the clutch and brake pedal, but got no photo, loads better driving position and comfort.

Thanks Philip.

That is going to make the world of difference, have you got some socks to cover the trumpets, I expect you'll be catching plently of flies.
Have you removed the original oil cooler?

Hello Jay, yeah got some tights.... have to use them to stop it sucking in small children... junked the original oil cooler at the start of the project, the one fitted is a Mk1 GTi item with new hoses and the Mk1 oil thermostat. The cooler is now infront and below the rad.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Hello all, just about recovered from last fridays track action and subsiquent messy birthday weekend!!
Lesson learn't.... Don't give your twin carb set-up all the fast cold air they can handle without getting them re-jetted!! LOL, My new air box leaned the mixture off so much it wasn't funny. The tips of the plugs were whiter than my new Golf, the quick fix was to Gaffer tape the back cover of my haynes manual into the air box to limit the air flow, this worked a treat... thinking of getting a patent on that design mod!
Have a new filter box on the drawing board, watch this space.... photos will of course follow.
Philip.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Nice pics.
I would move the old oil cooler though, first misjudgment of a kerb and it will be all over!
thus

Re: PAB's Track car.
Don't be mad, just get the carbs rejetted while you get ITBs sorted! The only issue I can see would be the ram air effect at higher speeds which would lean the mixture out so it'll have to be set up as an average. ITBs would allow you to map the fueling to the air intake but let face it, a bit expensive really.
You may need a bigger rad as I imagine the airflow is resticted now it sit lower.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Its a really good circuit isn't it! I drove it earlier this year in my mates MK2 Golf 16v on throttle bodies and had a blast, till i blew the engine up.......
Looking forward to taking the Jetta at some point.
You going to Donnington in November? CGTi end of season track day on the 23rd - i'm booked and looking forward to it.
Like the car BTW - still think my old MK2 Jetta GTI 8v was the best car i've had.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Hi Dan, hope to be at Donnington in Nov, just need to do a little service work.
Did the 16v you blew up belong to 'Sambo' from the CGTI forum??? I had some GSXR1000 ITBs of him this year and he told me a story about one of his mates grenading the motor in his 16v.... know your from his area, don't know if you remember but I asked you about your Weller wheels at the VW festival at Harewood House this year?
Hope to see you at Donnington.
Philip.

Yep, that was me Sam forgot to tell me that there wasn't a rev limiter fitted to his Golf......it'd probably have gone anyway, just had to happen when i was driving it
I've spoken to so many people at shows this year i can't remember who's who!!! All these forum names and real names get me confused......look forward to seeing you and the car at Donny hopefully, as it should be a good day. I know there's another VW track day the weekend before with a lot of the MK2 GTi race series cars going, but i'm deffo going to the CGTi one the week after.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Love seeing pictures of Jettas at full chat, they always looks much more composed that Golfs.
I had the cylinder head from the blown up Golf, then blew it up in my Jetta! Picked up a VR box from Sam yesterday, top man, got a bit of a power obsession.

Your right Jay, Sam is a top bloke... does have power issues, but don't we all?? LOL
Glad you like the flat out look, the car is working really well, the photos are from the morning, the sun came out later and the Toyo's went on the car... Its gonna need another hundred horsepower soon!!!

I know of an ex Polo Cup ABF engine, loom and ecu. 242Bhp at the fly, revs to 8.5k.
I was going to have it but decided it was too manic for the road.

i'd love to see that in olives' polo, but a bit to much for her as she only passed her test in march 2007.
Re: PAB's Track car.
He's after £650 and its in Portsmouth. Its even had the inner walls of the head casing machined away to fit the cams in, thats a biggggggggggg lift.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Hi all, have a few pics to show, been hard at it this last week.
Finally started my engine build, 2.0ltr ABF 16v to run on twin 45's then later on bodies.
Had a full on week stripping and cleaning everything on the engine, then sent the Crank, Flywheel, New VR6 Clutch & Front pulley to be lightened and balanced, crank also being polished. I've changed nearly all the fixings for new along with all of the seals, gaskets and rubber 0-rings.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Had the Block chemical cleaned at my local engine shop and I Glaze busted the bores, they had only minimal ware. I've re-fitted the idler shaft and pulley but i'm still waiting for the crank to come back. Also my Wossner Pistons & Rods still arn't here....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Had the Head Chemical cleaned too and skimmed, also got new Valve guides, stem seals and exhaust studs. The Cams are Newman 288* 11.2mm lift, got a new Cam chain too.
The head is std. I'll have it ported for next year as the buget is gettin tight.
Just need the rest of the bits to arrive now.
See ya soon.

Re: PAB's Track car.
Got some more bits sorted and ready to go on the car today, gonna run the gearbox with the std. diff as my budget has run short on the engine build. Gonna import a Peloquin diff later in the year.
1996 2.0 AGG Passat O2a CRU gearbox with 4.24 FD, this should make the new engine rev out on track.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Std Mk3 Golf/Vento/Passat shifter tower had to go, the shift quallity on these is not good!! and the shifter throw is massive!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Decided to fit a Mk4 Golf/Bora/Beetle type shifter tower, this one is from a 1998 Golf 2.0 GTi, breakers yard special. I walked past the car twice before I recognised it as a Golf! Very bent! I've fitted it with new bushes, cable ends and a new short shift arm from an Audi TT (5 Speed).
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Its a simple remove old and bolt in new conversion as the gearbox internals are the same on the O2a as they are on the O2j.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Test fitted the shifter cables to make sure i've not got a box full of neutrals.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Gonna be shifting with this baby, 2000 Model year Beetle shifter with a pull up for revearse short shifter and Richbrook alloy knob. The Audi TT swivel shortens the shift by 20% and the stick shortens it by another 35%.... Quick shift Eh!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Just gotta get it fitted now, allong with the wide track conversion and the engine..... still no sign of my pistons and rods.
Philip
