'87 Jetta GTI 16v
and my final Jetta is thsi recent purchase
Bought as a doner for the GT and also as a track toy. Its completely standard and will not be abused but used! It will serve as a good tool to get back to form and improve somewhat before I get my Golf Syncro out on the track. A few cheap and simple mods and plenty of smiles for the money!

Here is my first obsession - non Jetta but a Golf

Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
well.....................ive ghot it now but what a journey!!!!!!!!! its in good shape but the interior is nowhere near up to scratch (im looking for a jetta gti interior now - hint hint) but it runs pretty well. Theres a low end grumble and tickover and revs to 2500 are lumpy. This is my first GTI in 11 years of dubbinfg- why didnt i do it sooner?!!!!!!!! All was good until 5 miles from weybriidge to Derby and the alternater belt broke. That then delayed us by 2 hrs but thankyou again to the rac! Then we hit queued traffic on the m25 and that took 3 hrs to do 6.5 miles! desperate for a wee etc etc. Anyhow we eventually got home at 2340.

Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
There must be something about bringing Jettas home. Ant had an eventful journey when collecting the GT.
I sure a good service will yeild good results. Maplins are doind half price ultrasonic cleaners at the mo, well worth doing the injectors in mix of meths and injector cleaner.

i have removed the knackered interior (which ill be using parts for the GT Special) and fitted a late GL interior./ This cost me £20 for the rear seat as im borrowing most of my brothers Golf GL interior
Im awaiting a pair of 14k powerflex bushed wishbones and rear beam bushes £65
Eibach -40mm springs, weitec rears and spax fronts with a years use £90

Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
The suspension is on wirth the addition of front Bonrath poly top mounts. Still loads to do, but its had a damn good clean and I robbed the wheels from the Syncro. Ive also fitted the seats from an '88 Jetta GTI 16v (im looking for manual cards as I dont want electrics)

Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
Its been many years since I last had a car on a club stand, so it was off to Inters on the sunday to join the Jetta Owners Club. A great welcome and a good bunch of people
Id also managed to overcome the years of plastic neglect and got the trim nice and black

Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
well....... Ive been to Stealth today and the Jetta has been set up + the WUR mod. It was a bit lean on the fuelling and the timing had already been advanced in the past. The figures are dissapointing and acheived on 95ron, as I already had 143 bhp and 125 ft/lbs and I only ended up with 146 bhp and 128 ft/lbs. Still.... its more than factory and what I have has been optimised. Apparently the engine seems a bit tight. All I know about the history is that it was owned by an old fella for many years and then an Audi tech, then the guy I bought it from. Maybe it just needs a regular thrashing!

Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
ok, so ive been shopping....
I have some new wheels
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
280mm G60 front brakes toi fill them, and a new engine- an 110k GTI Engineering RE1900 16v and Ive also bought a Kstar KS3 unit that will allow me to have a custom fuel + ignition map (provided it works as these early ones can be a pain)

Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
nice mate the wheels and the engine really sound top what did the engine set you back?
Re: '87 Jetta GTI 16v
£400 with a couple of little extras. The owner and his friend have owned it for the last 60k and treated it well. The wheels look nicer in the pic but the paint is very shoddy home spray affair. The wheels might be track wheels yet as ive not fully made my mind up yet
