Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
got a bit bored at school the other day so while i had a free lesson away from the students i knocked up an Aluminium gear knob on the centre lathe.
will get a pic sorted once its on.
Also did a load of VW stickers on the vinyl cutter - saves replacing the rear badge if some little scrote nicks it - just put a sticker on - again pic to follow

Nasty Nasty Noise
Coming home from Emma's last night the car is making a nasty noise from the passenger side front. At first i thought it might have been the tyre scraping on the arch but after checking its not that.
Next thing to check is the CV joint etc, i took it out of gear and coasted - noise still there so its gotta be summit hub/shaft related i think. Checked the bearing (well tugged on the wheel a bit) and all seems fine with that.
Its one of those whirring noises that gets louder and faster as you go faster - any ideas?? anyone had this on theirs???

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Eventho u checked the wheel bearing check it in this manner
jack the car up and spin the wheel (all 4 )and listen for an od noise but
u can smell a bearing when its gone as well
the other way to check when the car is in the air is to take the wheel (at 3 and 9 o'clock ) and shake it "in and out" and do the same (at 12 and 6 o'clock) shake it from side to side as well
NBMake sure the car is secure on jack/axle stands
any trouble and give me a ring if u don't understand my lingo lingo on 07909916372

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Done that, all 4 wheels spin ok with no grinding etc.
Pulling the wheel - only thing i see (and feel) is that there seems to be some play on the steering rack, not much but a little. The noise is defo rotational - just noticed my tracking is WAYYYYY out due to o/s/f tyre being worn to the wire on the inside edge - would this cause the noise???
All CV joints, driveshafts have no play on them with the weight off the car. Im at a loss

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Well it turned out to be the n/s/f bearing - what an utter twat to change - dont wanna be doing that again in a hurry.
Many thanks to the Wigster - spent twenty mins on the phone to him getting tips and checks - they turned out to be spot on - even though i looked a total weirdo kneeling next to each wheel in turn, sniffing the bearings it pointed me to the fault !!
Top bloke Wiggy - MAHOOSIVE THANKS

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Small update - got two new boots fitted to the front rims, not on car yet though - putting new track rod ends on, then ill get the rims on with the tracking set.
Emma bought me an amp to push the 2 10" kenwood subs in the boot - sounds canny but need some decent speakers all round then probs a decent install, gonna go glass fibre and colour code the paint with the car, ill put up regular pics as i go - i love messing about with glass fibre
Done it before in the 3000GT i had, this was my effort in her

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
On the way home today my Jetta took a hissy fit and decided to chuck off one of her front brake pads. Thats what i get for buying cheap shite.
So new set picked up and just fitted.
QUESTION........
Why the fk do VW use those horrible allen bolts on the calipers???? All that happens is they get a bit stuck, you lean on the spanner/allen key combo a bit more then.........
