Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Right folks i might as well start this thread up now as im getting a start on the Jetta tomorrow. Just for future reference she will now be referred to as Charlie (Girlfriends idea )
So plans for tomorrow are: -
Solder wires for new ignition barrel.
Fit replacement indicator/wiper arms.
Fit replacement starter motor.
Fill up the water, fit the battery and get her fired up for the first time in 3 months. Then check everything over to create a snagging list for future jobs.
Those are the plans, I'll let yous know how i get on tomorrow.

Well i eventually got onto working on Charlie today, starter motor in, ignition all soldered up, water in and jump leads on - SHE LIVES!!
First time she has been started in 3 1/2 months so the engine was a bit coughy. New plugs and oil tomorrow and gonna run her up hot and see how things look.
Good to make a start !!

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Bit more progress today
Fitted new front pads - pretty easy actually - no seized nuts or bolts.
Also decided to start tinting the windows - took out the glass from the rear drivers side door and tinted it in my girlfriends bedroom LOL, she has done it before on her old 200SX S13 so we did a canny job. Pics to follow.
Next weekend is rebuild the rear brakes - sort out the coughing engine and hopefully MOT time. During the week Emma (Girlfriend) is going to take out the windows from the rear pass door and tint them for me, maybe do the rear window for me as well !!!!

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Glass looks good mate, ill get some pics sorted during the week.
Well i got the other rear door windows tinted today. Bit of a disaster with doing the brake shoes though - burst seal on one of the wheel cylinders, new one ordered and going on at the weekend.
Rear brake pipes are also gonna need renewed - I HATE BREKE PIPES.
Back to work/school tomorrow so cant work on her til next weekend.

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Few little jobs done this weekend. Figured while i was taking the rear brakes apart i would renew both wheel cylinders. Bastd of a job as as out of 4 allen bolts only one wasnt totally siezed.
Also figured while things were apart i would tidy up the backing plates and start the long process of doing all the little bits - saves taking them apart later ay.

Hoping to get the crappy bits done next weekend and see bout MOT. Im sure im mad lying under a car when the windchill must have been -3 LOL

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Well after being neglected for weeks i am gettig back to work on her. Problem has been that she is parked up at a mates place 40 miles from mine - makes it impossible to do anything.
Going to get her trailered to my place then ill have the light evenings after school to do the bits and bobs needed.
Pics and updates should be a bit more frequent now - i hope !!

Re: Mk 2 Jetta 1.6 TX - Starting 2.1.09
Well with the weather bahaving itself i put a full day in on the Jetta. Full wash, paint clean then wax. Spent and hour doing the door checks lol.
Fitted new rear door handles as well then moved onto the windows. I have already tinted the rear doors but decided to tint the front doors as well - see how long i get to keep them on before mr plod asks me to remove them haha.
Last weekend i bought the finest thing i have ever bought - One of those brake bleeding gizmos that you plug onto the spare tyre !!!! I individually jacked up each corner and bled the brakes in 20 mins - i love that gizmo.
Anyhoo - here are some pics of the progress.
