Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
thanks fellas - not sure weather to fit the new exhaust yet or not....
got back from Spain at 4am this morning so best update and catch up on things.
got home this morning to find a couple of parcels waiting for me in the shed.....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
my wheels had arrived!
the rear
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
9.5 with 225/40/18 - suprisingly little stretch
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
front
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
8.5j with 215/40/18 - again not a massive amount of stretch
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and the new (free) bolts with some fairly budget lockers
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
so like a kid at chrismas i took a front and rear up to the car with a couple of bolts to trial fit - mainly to make sure the fronts clear the porscheys
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
all is well on clearance side of things
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
popped the rear on too
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and to my suprise i can still see the red of the 256mm calipers
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
high roller - still on axle stands (all i need now is an engine [:DD] )
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
got a few more goodies a day or two before i went away
clutch slave cylinder for the 6 speed
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
clutch
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
inlet gasket, exhaust gasket, washers / gasket for the turbo and new injector seats for the inlet mani when i get it back

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
haha, thanks i think
and now for the reason i'm on here at 2am, just finished doing some jobs at the unit - the polisher finally got my bits done today so had to take some quick pics of his handy work
stainless custom hotside pipe highly polished
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
inlet mani with threaded servo vac outlet polished
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and the all important stainless bulkhead heatshield
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
once the heatshield is mounted i can actually start bolting the engine back in and make some real progress again

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
thanks venturbo
got my hands on some vibra technics mounts, i also ordered a new set of spark plugs too.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
there's not alot of pics because i started working on my car at 8pm and got back in at gone 2am, now everthing had to be done in order so i mounted my heatshield on the bulkhead
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then it occured to me that i hadn't sorted out the mani heatshield so knocked one up out of some stainless
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
now i fitted the new clutch and 6 speed dmf
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and thrust bearing / slave cylinder
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
also with the heat shield done i could fit my turbo with lines and DP
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
next i popped the box on and slid it into position with starter, from there she was about ready to go in so wheeled it an and bolted it up to the new vibratechnic mounts
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
also trial fitted my boost pipe
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and popped the front end on
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
thanks bud
i better get some pics up of the little things that have been getting done recently.
i mounted the polished inlet with new gasket and white injector seats
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
bought some more braided 8mm fuel line and some dressing ends
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and fitted it up along with my boost pipe
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
also popped on the throttle body
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and trial fitted a boost hose
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
next problem was the water pipe that runs around the block to the heater matrix, the pipe for a k04 is different than for a k03, i'd bent it around out of the way before but was never happy with it
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
so i chopped it down and welded the end back on it
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
now all i have to do is make up a new section to join the black pipe to the heater matrix, making it look neat and clearing the turbo / TIP
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
so i bent a bit of pipe to the desired angle and gave it a quick polish
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then joined both ends with some silicon hose
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
next i order these from vw to fit the 6 speed box
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
i'd originally planned to throw my carbon fibre cover out but then thought it'd fit in well with my carbonio so reshaped it
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then a good mate of mine donated me a different CAI so i'm not sure on the carbon again, but trialed the new CAI and i like it so have sent it off to be polished
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
i have finally got myself a decent boost guage after my inaccurate budget item
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
came with pillar off Edition but i donated that to Edd
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
started on my new servo vac outlet, i had originally bought a 45 degree adaptor but found it hit the boost pipe so got a 90 degree the other day and it just sneakes in
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
got my new bottom ball joints through to so popped them on
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
also split my scmidts down too
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
here's how my engine bay stands at the mo, i refitted the scuttle, ecu and aero wipers earlier, will have to see how long a few parts take to finish off this week
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

a pic of my ever so interesting new 6 speed outer cv joint fitted - only because it cost me £190 with discount
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
after work today i got the cam cover i had delivered yesterday from a fellow member and started to prep it
washed it down
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
removed the covers
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
sanded and keyed it
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
cleaned it off with acid to remove any grease
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
layed down the first coat
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then 4 hours later the 3rd heavy coat
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
i wanted to not have everything polished so i thought this would tie in with my TB and boost pipe (cold side)
also as pointed out by albad the connection for my servo vac outlet in red and blue anodised stuck out like a sore thumb. i soaked it an TFR for a short time and popped it over the buffing wheel and got most of it off

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
after much deliberation, i'd originally planned to drop the front more to get the stance i was after but having seen a few of my mates in the past week with some epic sump damage i've decided to go for air ride to keep it practical for normal driving.
so just got off the phone to Andy at Tuk and he's sorting me out with a nice little kit which should almost finish off the bora or at least get it alot closer to where i want it.

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
i got my centers back from the powder coaters when i finished work - i was far from happy with the finish, i could have painted them myself better than that but thought i'd better get them done 'properly'.
they were almost chalk board finish when they should have been gloss black.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
a quick call to my mate polack (valeter) and he came and cut them back for me and will do them again in a weeks time to enhance the gloss.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
got them all bolted up and bought them home
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
they haven't turned out bad in the end all things considered

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
thanks steady - glad you like it.
after the failed attempt at polishing my intake pipe i decided to wrinkle black it although it didn't come out as well as i'd hoped. so after leaving it over night decided to trial fit it and get some pics with that and the cam cover on.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
the filter i got to sit up quite high so should reduce the chance of sucking up any water
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
while i was messing about i thought i'd get a wheel out to try on so i can get the spacing spot on to how i want them to sit. so lowered the rear beam and popped the springs out, fitted the wheel and jacked the beam into position so i could measure the arch gap.

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
did a few little bits today;
spaced my wheels out so they sit how i wanted - flush with the arch
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
fitted and wired in my newsouth boost guage
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
i split the ends off my old 5 speed p/s pipe and went to Pirtek with some measurements and had them make fit the ends to a new HP pipe rated to 3600psi so it should hold out
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
i also dug out my bumper to see if i needed to make any adjustmentswith the new filter / intercooler pipework but it fitted spot on with plenty of clearance
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
it's mostly all the fiddly little bits to do now and fit the air when it arrives

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
thanks bud, it's getting close now to being done. hope it'll be ready for when the suspension turns up
did alot today but was 90% the little bits you don't see or notice, one bit i did get done though was the exhaust, i decided to fit the stainless system in place of my home made item (which imo sounded great).
i removed mine and sized up where it'd need to be cut and joined
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
cut it to length and welded an approprate sleeve on my original front pipe to fit the new system
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
once that was done i mounted it all up to sort out the tailpipe. the sytem originally came with a 3" outrolled pipe but that was never going to stay, so i measured it up and chopped it off then welded a little kickdown in place to keep it subtle
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then fitted it up
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
just hope to god it sounds ok

jettaRhys - not mine bud, mine's been in the front garden on axle stands for a few months now
NANDO - thanks bud, you're too kind
jedi16v - TUK are taking time, every week they say next week
well decided after looking for R32 pedals for a while to get some from awesome, while i was on the site i had a browse and ended up with an R8 oil cap, neuspeed dipstick and an air freshener
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
also a mate of mine offered me his pioneer dvd / sat nav HU so i snapped it up
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
after fitting it i realised i don't like the way it sits out of the dash so i'll have to get something else now.
i'll have to get some pics of it all fitted (before i pull the HU and sell it) i can see the dipstick handle getting modified or sold and the R8 cap doesn't sit well with me so far.... got my pedals though

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
i have been pretty busy lately with one thing or another and the bora has been getting neglected only managing to get 20 mins here and there and no real progress pics so i'll update with what i have managed
fistly a pic of the pedals fitted
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
next was the oil cap which as mentioned above sat far too high so i trimmed it down a few times to get it close to where i wanted it.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
also the Neuspeed dipstick turned out to be vast compared to what i was expecting but i fitted it anyway, i may modify it or sell it - not decided as yet

today it was planned i'd get down to the unit after recovering from my weekend away at usc and crack on with Faisals, unfortunately the guy who owns the unit had unexpectedly gone to oxford with the keys.
so that coupled with the fact TUK have let me down with my air ride 3 weeks on the trot and when i ring up today to see where it is i'm told Andy has just gone on holiday for 2 weeks and i'll have to wait for him to get back as no-one knows anything about my order - i decided i'm going to put it back on the road without the air as this could drag on a long while and i refuse to miss Ed38 because of it.
so with nothing else to do i set about doing some little bits (in the peeing rain), dropped the subframe and fitted the new ARB, mounted and plumbed in my catch can (easier said than done) bolted the front end back on properly including bumper, dirt shields and grill, bled the brakes with faisals assistance, refiited the rear suspension removed awaiting air and a few small jobs.
when i fired it up last week for the first time in months the p/s pump chewed itself up - i thought i may have gotten contaminated whilst being cleaned or just dried up while stood so i got another from a breaker and chucked it on but it seems my custom pipe i had made at Pirtek is killing the pumps so i'm desperately on the hunt for a 6 speed p/s pipe.
anyway fot the first time in a long time i put wheels on it and took it off the stands, the suspenson needs to settle and the thing is filthy but it almost looks like a car again

next was the oil cap which as mentioned above sat far too high so i trimmed it down a few times to get it close to where i wanted it.

Re: olethalb's white R-line bora - schmidts + air ride fitted.
no new pics at the mo, got myself a p/s pipe yesterday (not £133 + VAT from VW either) so took it to the unit, popped it on the ramp and gave everything a check over, flushed the coolant, put new oil in the box and fitted new coilpacks so they all match.
then took it out for a test drive and get everything to set back in, brakes, suspension settle etc etc, went to the nearby ( ) fuel station and necked it with some super unleaded. 36.4 miles later i got back to the unit and all was well apart from it being absolutely filthy having not being washed for ~ 5 months oh and the vibratechnics / superpro combo is a little harsher than expected.
i actually got to drive to work this morning and the push bike stayed at home
oh i also got a TUK update last night, John called and said 'good news, your kit is here but you'll have to wait 'til monday to collect it - monday the 23rd'
he doesn't want me to collect it without Andy there so i have to wait for him to get back off holiday

thanks to the absolute legend that is Dele, he pulled some strings and got it sorted so my air ride could be collected on saturday AND took the trip up to TUK and collected it for me
i'm going to try and have it all fitted up by this time next week - updates will follow.
