Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Cheers Steve, tbh I yet to find a reliable way to properly bleed the brakes without a pukka high pressure machine you find in a garage.
The wheels are unique. According to Compomotive there has only been one set made on a custom order. I found out the reason the offset is so high, is due to the suspension on the 6R4 rally cars stick out quite far. Torque steer should be interesting. But yes, stripped and coated in white with some old skool Compomotive decals, they are going to poke big time.
Trial fitted the engine today, need to do a bit of touching up on the paint now but looks good!
Going to run the 6pot Porsche brakes with a 345mm R32 disc.......... well thats the plan.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Eventually test fitted the engine, certain areas of the bay will need a another lick of paint due to scraps and wallops from the mallet. Cleared out the garage so I can work in relative warmth and light. :-D

Also picked up a set of RS's but as much as I like them, I can't justify having that much cash sat in a set of rims.

Coming together Jay, and the bay looks great.
Drooling over the RS's. Simply dont think about how much they cost you, just get the car finished and get em on. You can always earn more money .
Keep the updates coming.

This is looking awsome Jay. Really looking forward to seeing the finished car. If you have to many spare parts, wheels and brakes etc. you could always donate some to me and if you have some free time as you don't seem to be doing too much you could come and finish my project as well, that is after you've done popeyes and steve b's obviously.

You must be nearly finished now Jay. Will there be some more update pics soon or are you going to make us wait till UD's to see all the finished work?

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Plan is still UD. Openly admit i've not been as commited as most, part of the reason why I bought the charger.
Not been many updates because nothing dramatic has happened, its all been crappy little jobs.
New wheels going for refurb in a couple of weeks, charger coming this week. Bodywork is still rubbish but that'll come...
Cheers for the words chaps...

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Jay I should have mine and stari's all together before ud's and still have the week off just before as well. If you would like an extra pair of hands to give your motor a final push with the finishing bits just let me know. Don't know what good I'd be but I could put the kettle on!

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Cheers chaps, I really appreciate the support. I was left feeling a bit empty after last years Jetta troubles but i'm pleased to say i've got my head back into a better place.
I can't wait to get everything fired up. It won't be mapped for UD, but the ecu has been roughly mapped anyway.
GTi spring fest is a must, hopfully with water injection and a real trick aftercool system which should help to acheive 300hp.
Hope Onoriode is there....

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Its the beginning of my week off. Plenty of jobs to do, started by having a crack at routing the brake pipes.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Done some other little things like hook up the starter wiring, roughly, but its not turning quick enough so another starter on the way.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
After reading about PABs antics, i've also got a MK4 shift tower on the way. Need to source a shifter and cables but not sure which ones... suggestions please.
The bay is gradually filling up.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Final blower shot. Although I doubt it'll be installed for UD.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Nice work Jay, looking forward to seeing it done...
Ok, two ways. I used Beetle cables and shifter, they are the same as the Mk4 golf ones but the cables are a little long (OK if your mounting the shifter like mine... high & forward). I've found out the best ones to use for std. installation are the cables and shifter from a Lupo, not sure what the stick is like, shound be the same.
Let me know what tower your getting... Pre or post 2000, as you need the correct cable ends.
Got my shifter & cables from Stevens VW Dimantlers near Ipswitch.... They have an Ebay shop.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Cheers for that. I have sourced a Beetle shifter, for some reason I thought they were quicker than a Golf. Anyway, i'll wait until my shift tower turns up, hopefully tomorrow before I ge them.
Todays updates.... mostly little (big) jobs...
