Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Events have conspired against me, or should I say the Germans must be having an off week. Got an email last night saying I hadn't made payment for my 6 branch, needless to say I did it over a week ago. If it turns up tomorrow there may be a chance but tbh it ain't looking good.
Not bad ehh, planned to get to as many shows as possible this year and i've managed 1 in the Jetta.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Jay sorry to hear about the delay hope you still manage to get it done. Looking forward to seeing it at ed38. I know how you feel about a lack of shows this year, I'm just the same. Still theres always next season.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Just to keep things moving along. After the disappointment of not meeting the ed38 deadline I decided to revisit a few areas I wasn't happy with before.
Engine now painted and ready for reassembly.

The pesky manifold that caused the problems.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Thanks for the comments chaps, i've got some new rather special brakes on there way too!
The paint used was PlastiKote High Temp Paint - Aluminium, got it from Halfords. I can honestly say it the best paint i've ever used, it covers really well and doesn't run or drip. Needs to cure at engine operating temps to fully harden.
All the ancillaries are being painted & Inlet manifold mirror polished.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
those aston ones would be proper mint jay. its gotta be done.
as for brake whore - i recon not, i can see perfectly that those porky calipers are ideal for holding up soft teddy's that can't keep up right.
thats dragon's den material that.
you seen the group buy on vr6 silicone hoses?

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Got a complete set of the Astons, front and rear! The 6 pot Porsche ones are sooooo big, really fancy sticking these on but it'll mean firing up the CAD.
Had a look at the buy which looks really excellent value, i'm going for a slimmed down look in the bay so i've deleted the expansion tank and i'm not running the pipes to the TB as they're not needed. As a result i'd only use about half the hoses in the kit.
I've inquired about getting some silicon hoses formed by our prototype shop, just need to find a suitable cost centre to put it through on.

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
Long time, no update.
Engine back together and ready to go in, still got a bit to do in terms of refitting pedal boxes, steering bits etc... but this is where i'm at.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Still need to finish mirror polishing the inlinet manifold to complete, I think its come out ok too.
Got some new wheels too! Very special Compomotives TH1780's with an et13 offset and factory removable 15mm spacer taking them to et-2. Rally spec wheels, scruffy at the mo but going for a full powdercoat at the factory. 17"x8"'s baby! I know 17"'s are a no no on mk2's, but these are special, theres only ever been these one set made to this spec and there mine!!

Finally, a diiiirty brake shot.......

Re: My Jetta Gti VRSc - Charging ahead
those wheels are sexy, cant say ive seen a set like them in as big as 17's before should look sweet. i take it youll do them in white? very rally look sould be really nice.
as for the brakes i still havent fitted my 280's yet i dont wanna have to bleed the brakes tho ive done it a few imes but never seems to work with my easy bleed! have you decided which your fitting yet?
engine looks really nice and clean hows the bay coming along?
