Bought the old girl of a member on the caddy forum for a fine fee of 500 quid.
Shes a non runner at the mo but she'll be running soon as i've fitted the carb seal, gonna be ordering some konigsports on monday to drop her nicely onto some mk2 gti banded steelies.heres the spare wheel non banded.

In good time i'd like to drop a 16 valver in, but i've gotta concentrate on the caddy first.

Re: 83 MK1 jetta 2ltr valver
fresh from the MOT it looked like this
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Mk1 scirroco wheel, original standard interior ( the way its gonna stay)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I thought the wheels were too big so they were swapped with some 13's banded to 8 all round.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
also changed the steering rack to accept a five speed box at a later date, new wishbones with poly bushes all round
so now she stands loke this
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Low and slow....... sorry about the long posts......

Re: 83 MK1 jetta 2ltr valver
Shes coming along really nicely buddy i see you decided to go with just black on the steelies why did you decide not to go with the blue bands?
Re: 83 MK1 jetta 2ltr valver
Wasn't really feeling it basically, so they went all black. Looks loads better on the 13's me thinks too.
Just sourced my self a five speed box tonight, so gonna pick it up next week...... should be able to to 60 comfortably then ???

Re: 83 MK1 jetta 2ltr valver
Not much now, I had a few cam belt issues and worries about shells etc....
Well first a video of the problem in question.....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
So after stripping off the cam belt and the rest of the gubbins I found the problem...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
So I put it all back together again checking that none of the other pulleys rubbed anywhere on the plate....
Fail, the squealing had gone but there was still a rubbing somewhere...... then found the belt was rubbing on the cover plate where it peels off the tensioner.... so I cut that off....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Built it all back up again to check, which left me with this....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Which makes me a happy bunny :music:...... now to the next problem...
1/ Leaking radiator, one of the fixing slots to the top panel is leaking (nothing i've done) already have a remedy for it.
2/ Leaking rocker cover gasket.
3/ Align gearlinkage... what a bugger.
4/ Bleed brakes.
5/ Replce copper washer on fuel pump to accumulator line.
........ at the present speed.... I'll be done next month..

its there..... Well today was the infamous maiden voyage, well underpowered but i'll put that down to ignition timing.... hopefully sorted soon. Also gotta sort the wiring nest out in the passenger footwell, and got a bit of a leak at the water hose where it joins the heater matrix hoses. No biggie though. the joiner pipe I used had no beveled edge, well thats what i'm hoping the problem is..... May still have an oil leak too, tomoz i'll know more, the wet patch will tell me i'm sure.

Its been a while since i've updated....
Shes now running sweet as a nut. I had a full powerflow exhaust done last weekend, it has 2 boxes so its nice and quiet till you open it up and it purrrrrs. which was exactly how i wanted it. Today was the dreaded MOT and it passed with flying colours and NO advisories , I am one happy chappy.
The Tester also commented on how solid it was and that he'd like to test "this sort of car" all day as there more interesting the todays modern boring cars..... and finished off the conversation telling me that he wanted it....
Leg-end !!
I'm pretty sure that its one of only cars i've owned that has passed the MOT first time, and I'm pretty sure its the only one never to have had an Advisory.
And its the oldest one I've ever owned.
(shint phone pic sorry)

Re: 83 MK1 jetta 2ltr valver
Finally.. New brakes Vauxhall 256mm, Genuine 16v Discs, Green stuff pads... also refurbed the N/S hub and fitted a new bush.
I now have brakes, and cannot recommend this set up enough to anyone rolling with the utter tosh that was issued with the mk1 chassis.
old and new

bolted up, sorry for the crap pic (Blurry)
