Ant wouldn't it ruin it's authenticity a little by putting a VR in not to mention all the work your letting yourself in for, you brave man. Anyway good luck with it if thats what your doing the VR is a much quicker engine. If I find any good deals on a donnor will let you know straight away.

Surprised oh i think ive split the groupe here

I always intended to keep the whole car original or returnable to original. once the engine has been removed it will definately be rebuilt and painted it will then be stored (not sold or scrapped) im also getting a new interior for the car aswell to be retrimmed so that i can remove th original and store it before it can be damaged anymore.

Basicly what im trying to do is keep all the original stuff tip top and safe so that it can always be returned to the car it once was.

I must stress i will never modify the exterior from its orriginal spec due to its rarety

Ant, if you're still thinking about the vr6 route, I sold my old golf mk3 vr6 to a lad last year and he's blown 5th gear, it's just sat on his drive now gathering dust as he's got another car, it's a k plated 5 door with about 120k with plenty of history, he did mention it to me and i don't think he wants a lot for it, i can pass you his number if you're interested?

what did yoiu decide to do in the end? Theres always a few 8vs to be found and quite a few that have been modified. I plan to keep my original engine and then get a period GTI Eng spec head and cam for it- 135bhp will be fine in something like this
