Hello fellow Dubbers.

Please forgive me for I am some what new to the Jetta world.

The Good: I bought a Jetta TX 1.6 Petrol about 6 or 7 months ago.
She's had a laid back life, and by laid back I mean the previous owner also owned a zimma frame. Now she's got 63000 odd miles on it.
Since I've had it, its done about 4000 miles and probably needs attention.
This where you come in.
Unfortunately the carb is the dreaded 2e2.pierburg. (I've done a bit of home work you know lol). And i have read forums of similar problems that I am expierenceing. I have thought about selling the car for something else but I just cant do it, not when I know the Jetta has so much potential. If i can get it running smooth I would love to dole her up.
The 2 major problems at the moment are as follows

The Bad: 1 She's a bi**h to start in the morning. If i don't keep my foot on the pedal the engine will die almost seconds after turning the ignition. But eventually it gets going, althugh the the engine sounds really chomppy.
2. Pedal to he floor and the response is really delayed and I have known it to be more responsive. New spark plugs and TH leads perhaps ?

If anyone could help by send links, or threads or anything I'd appreciate it. Pics be will along soon.

The Ugly: I need to sort something out cause I might have to get a different car which i dont want to do. But i beginning to be to afraid to drive it in case it brakes down.

Cheers for you're help.

yep i had this problem with my 1.6 tx the car has a wax choke and over the 20 odd years the wax breaks down and not a supple as used to be. my car never broke down but was a bit.h in the mornings in the winter only, summer fine. i got over this by just reving high in the gears till engine warms up 10 min or so only fix is to get webber carboretta but can cost and hard to get seconde hand as every body has similar prob so sort after good luck

Welcome mate, first thing i'd do is drop the oil and filter and change them for a vag filter and decent oil, then plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm, check all the vacum pipes and their connections and get the timing checked as well, regarding the carb you can still get quite a few spares for them including overhaul kits if you hunt around, it will be worth it though she'll feel like a different car afterwards
