Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
Ok ok ok for god sake The main reason weve been a bit slack is weve got a mk2 gti 8v engine rebuild in and a mk2 1300 engine rebuild in at the same time and theres only two of us so its been very busy of late but my upmost appologise go out to you lot and of course jettafan but as of next week we will be starting on the rest of the floor pan and rear beam so i will post some new pics real soon i really do promise. As always we thank all you for your on going interest and that includes you venturbo . Peace out....
Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
Yeah come on alex!!
in the mean time you ought to start what will only be the worlds longest build thread for your jetta 16v..
and another topic to showcase the other 5 or so dubs you have tucked away!
if he lived in a manor house it could be like a vw only beaulieu.. sadly he doesnt!
will try and pop over soon, see how your doing!

Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
Hi guys and gals sorry its been so long but we have been so so busy over the last month are little feet have barely touched the ground. Well the old engine from the jetta has found a new home in a oak green golf gti after a total rebuild of course.
I thought i might post a couple of pics of it just in case you were interested and also thought it might be nice to let jettafan see the old heart of his car go onto better things.
Before =

During (we paint the block before rebuilding the internals so that any paint that may bleed into the engine can be spotted easily) =
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
We were really proud of how the head turned out again this was totally rebuilt valve guides, steams, valves polished and reseated etc etc.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
After (well sort of !?) =
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This engine was totally rebuilt with new everything bearing shells, thrust washers, piston rings, every gasket and oring etc etc.
We have returned to the jetta and we will post some new pics over the next few days but for now thank you all truely for your patients and chaow for now

Cheers mrblues.
Theres so many combo's to choose from if you have a 1.6td already then its quite straight forward to step up to a early 1.9td but if your looking at going for the later mk4 golf, passat lump then its much more involved so much so that i personally wouldnt go there. A customer/good friend of mine but a 150bh tdi (from a golf mk4) in a mk1 caddy it went like stink but he really struggled and often admitted that "i wish i never bothered this" and hes an amazing enginer who made most of the conversion bits himself. But as i say this is only my personal thoughts i dont wont to sound like a dream killer.
Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
Well after writting a really nice letter to the magic car pixies it seems thay have packed up for xmas early and havent done a thing on the jetta so its time for us to get are hands dirty again so armed with nothing but these.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Oh and thankfully these were sent to us aswell.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
We started off by taking care of the central heat sheld. We removed it when we did the gear linkage bushes this gave us the chance to get rid of a handfull of little rust spots and clean the tunnel.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The clean heat sheld refited.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Then we had the task of cleaning the rest of the floorpan upto the rear beam wind deflectors so heres some before and after pics.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I would actually be prepared to eat my dinner of this well possibly
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
We are at the next big stage now and will be dropping the rear beam out of the car next week so more pics to come again sorry for the delay see you again shortly The D,D Team.

my god im lovin this resto it does it just keeps on getting better
Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
Cheers guys for all the support. This is one of the parts of the job that we really were NOT looking forward to it takes soooooo long to clean every nock and cranny by hand with just a scrubbing brush and some GT85 and ive still got the rear boot floor area to do!! It took about 20 hours (not including repairs) to get this much of it done and we estimate that it will take longer to do the rear as its way more complex. This will probably slow the updates up for a bit because i dont what to post loads of boring pics of just floor sections. But on the other hand we have got the rear beam to do and we cant wait to get hands on that....
Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
just looked at this again, it's giving me a bit of motivation to get on with mine, but it'll never be as good as this one.
keep up the the good work
keep up the the good work
Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
20 Hours.. you are bloody bonkers Alex!!
You better get this out to some shows next year mate, and get a bigger workshop..as i think you will have people queing round the block for this kind of genuine resto and repair work..rather than a quick pug up, blow over and a set of shiney wheels.
On the edge of my seat for the next installment!
Andy

Re: Dirtydubbers Resto Corner MK2 Jetta 8v GTI.
Yes it would be the Jetta that would be treated to the re-vamp.
Still need to sort out what engine upgrade it will have too.
