another little wheel trip later and i picked up these OZ split rims in a handy 7.5 and 8x 15 size and modelled nicely on my little mk1

and being the ever tinkerer i stripped them down with the aid of mike robertson aka the polisher

they were in a bit off a state and looked like theyd been painted with hammerite and sealed with enough silicone to fit a double bath

rainy day at the inn so started my engine

used a screwdrive and a drift to descale the block

got the wishbones and rear axle stripped and shotblasted then seam welded them up

dressed the beam and the wishbones up with a grinder and then a wire wheel

and heres why i wasted 300 quid......

the purpose behind the shotblasting was mainly to dig out a couple pockets of rust in the boot floor and the left hand sill but it was also supposed to take off the underseal

every spot weld slowly ground down then melted away with a gringer to save on holes,the scuttle panel was not!!! a fun job

then add a bit of this for the time being,still not 100%got to finish off behind the brake balance bar which is getting removed as soon as i source a pedal box

tried to leave as much factory underseal of in the wheel bowls and just smoothed it off as best as i could,itll be better by painting time
