....HI

Just a little post to say that i have just put a deposit on a new (for me) Bora!

I currently drive a 2006 seat ibiza sport 1.4 petrol and needed a bigger car and one that wont drink fuel like a thirsty spaniard!

After alot of searching and a few test drives of various VAG cars I decided on the Bora - The only problem was there are not too many about, i could have settled on a Golf TDI but the Golf is so common and i prefer the styling of the Bora.

Anyway back to the car that i get to pick up next weekend...
Its a 2004 TDI SE 100 bhp (would have liked the 130 but this'll keep insurance down and i can always remap to 133) It has black leather interior with heated seats, cruise control and all the usual SE refinements
Its in Graphite Blue and has done 40'000 miles.

I'm well chuffed with my find and am looking forward to using this site alot more! cheers

I'll post some pics when i pick it up!

Cheers
Barry

Its probably my "driving" style as the small engine has no ummmph I need to rev it to 3000/4000 before a gear change!

Cheers veedal.

Ive had the Bora for 2 days now and i'm loving the solid feel of it compared to the ibiza, it doesn't half wollow round the corners though!

Im in desperate need of a suspension upgrade!

Also, ive been looking for a "how to" on changing the headlamp bulbs as the ones i have are pretty weak, I had Osram Silverstars +50% in my beeza that were almost white and i can really tell the difference now i'm back to bog standard yellow ones. I was looking at the Philips +80% bulbs - H4 right?
Apparently the dealer has to change the bulbs for you as you need to take the bumper off ? ! Is this true?

Its going to my local Listers tommorrow as i found that after buying it (VW approved used!) Rear drivers side taillight is out, front passenger side light is out and i have no rear fog lamp illuminating at all! Mad

Sorry for boring you all with my lighting problems but i'd like to change the main/dipped myself especially as it will have just been in for bulbs!

cheers
Baz

Suspension is a tough topic! Something like eibach, KW, AST H&R are the brands I would chose, you ideally need a shock spring combo to really benefit. The Bora, even in Sport guise, is set up to be a little on the soft side Shocked

No No No and No No Laughing you do not need to take the bumper of the bora to replace the headlight bulbs you may however need to remove the top of the battery box and will need to remove the primary light sheilds under the bonnet [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. With regard to rear bulbs im fairly sure its a small thing mk4s suffer from at times as mine and one or two of my friends have the same it shouldent be a constant prob though. And springs well you dont need to to go over the top i can recomend [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] they do Koni spring only kits which is what ive got it makes the ride so much more comfortable and you know you have the quality

Thanks guys, I've ordered some philips xtreme +80% bulbs and also some PIAA Platinum White sides.

Suspension wise: I popped into my local VWaudi specialist and he quoted me £229 +vat for Weitec just springs and £425 +vat for the Weitec Ultra GT kit with sports dampers - both including fitting at a 30mm or 50mm drop.

He said i could probably get away with 50mm springs as long as i replaced my stock dampers within the year as they'd eventually be Foooked.

How much drop do you have on yours reaver? I will still have the stock 16" wheels for a while mind you.

So... now i gotta save/sell stuff!

I'm going to America in a few weeks and i've seen some oettinger style sports grills (not badgeless - i like my VW badge!) over there alot cheaper than over here so i'll see if i can fit one in me suitcase!

Be carefull lowering it 50mm!
LittleMissBora's car has been lowered by 50mm on Weitech springs. Looks ace, but she can't put it on full lock as it rubs on the wheel arches and its a really bumpy ride. Still, it looks damn nice though. Take a look at her car in the members cars section.
Mine has been lowered 35mm on Eiback Sports Line, much smoother ride, looks good with 18" alloys and i can get it on full lock.

Unfortunately, I am selling my Bora now (don't really need two in the family) as I need to fund buying a van. If you know anybody who wants one, look in the Cars for Sale section.

£425+vat sounds a bit steep for the witec kit,(typical scotsman moaning about the price!)i was considering it and saw it advertised for £250,if i can remember it vas venom motorsport that had both drops at this price,
let me know how you get on if you get that kit,i was considering coilovers but i think these will be better.

The £425+vat was including fitting too.

I'll check out venom motorsport and maybe ask the guy how much just to fit them if i buy the part elsewhere. I sure as hell can't fit them myself!

Right,
Been on venommotorsports site and priced up a whole suspension upgrade -

Venom's own brand uprated shortened dampers (front and rear)and a set of Apex 40mm drop springs comes to £166 delivered.

Is that all i need? would i just need to pay labour to whoever fits them? or am i missing some vital components?

Reaver, you say i'd be almost on the floor with a 50mm drop? or a 40?

As i have read that anything over 45 drop would need a arb modification and as littlemissbora's experiencing some rubbing problems on full lock at 50mm i think 40mm is the way forward.

...

On another note:

I managed to change my headlights yesterday. Awkward but not impossible - thanks for the tips.

Philips Xtreme Power +80% ...
I forgot to do a "before" but here's the "after":-

I got quoted £274+vat just to FIT the suspension if i decide to buy it myself.

Does this sound reasonable? 3 hrs work at over £100 an hour?

I'd be better off getting the whole wietec kit fitted by them if thats the cost of fitting.

or... 40mm springs on stock dampers? cheaper to fit i'd imagine. ?

Question
