MK2 Jetta..I LOVE MY GT <3
Its a GT. 1986. 1800 8v MPI in the form of K jet. It goes SO well, Better than anything ive EVER driven before, including my old TSR'd 1900 mk2 golf GTi..
Dont know why its a 'GT' and not a GTI, its even on the logbook as one. Was it just before they named it the GTI? Oh well, keeps my insurance to £340 PA, not bad for a 20yr old..)
Its done some miles, and the bodywork is SO bad, but £140 for a car with 10 months MOT that runs absolutely spot on, cant be bad, right? (180000 miles, but pulls perfectly through all gears with no flat spots, smoke, or any drama at all). Goes like a rocket.
haha.

I love it. I really do. When i looked at it, it was dark, and now its daytime i can see quite how bad it is. I'm so glad its a VW because with some stickers and a slam i can pass it off as rat-look, as opposed to just sh1t
The sills have 3 plates on them on the drivers side- theyre solid and the rust hasnt gone any further but never seen a mk2 go here before - allthough this has lived by the sea for about 18 of its years...

Front wing NS - MASSIVE dent and rotten at the bottom. OH well, time for a new wing..Stuck a sticker on it for now to make it look good

Paint is so dull its unbelievable. Its an '86 so pre laquer so i'll get out there with some polish later..or not - i like it powdery!

Been smacked on the NS rear quarter at some point, enough to merit the WORST filling i've EVER seen, and sprayed with polar white, not alpine like the car. Theres a sticker of a dog doing a tuneful fart above this to distract the eye. This also cracked badly the rear light, so changed them for my crap home tinted ones form my old jetta. Gonna swap them with the std ones from the blue jetta as i like the std look...

Rear OS quarter has had paint stripper on it ar some point and again repainted with polar white...but.. Fuel cap = cool sticker (again, this attracts attention away from the poor colour match...)

Rear valance below bootlid - rust bubles but solid..

Rear OS door - doesnt open as handle properly jammed. Oh well, its got 10 months MOT so i'll leave that for now... (yes, i know thats not the right picture...)

Windscreen(got one in tha back, too..) = cool sticker

On the plus side its got all the orignal glass and dealer plates,

has NO leasks whatseover (found that out driving it home in torrential rain) and I'm only the 4th owner in 21 years.. As ive also said it runs SO well. Tappets are a teeny bit noisy for about 10 seconds after startup but apart from that it drives so well, idles perfectly and pulls in every gear with no smoke or flat spots.

Owned by 2x enthusiasts and one not so careful driver, and now me. I didnt even put the VDUB club stickers on it...
The bodywork makes it fit to be bangered, but I'm SO smitten with it its unreal. Like the black bottle-tops on it too. Gonna get a couple of new front wings and the sander out on the dodgy bit of filling. Even i can do better than that, seriously.

With horrible, but non-cracked/holed lights:

Oh, and look at this interior... not exactly mint, but not seen that pattern before...

Re: MK2 Jetta..I LOVE MY GT <3
Good choice and the best colour too (not biased......much)
reminds me very much of my old GT.
I once read somewhere that the dealers sometimes used to badge them as GTIs to increase sales but they were still GTs on the logbook (as mine was) in fact I was suprised to see that my newer one is a GTI on the logbook.I'm hoping to badge my 90plate as a GT for old times sake but I'm struggling to find a boot badge like yours !
anyway good luck with the bodywork, at least its the easiest colour to blend in (my last one only had original paintwork on one wing roof and bonnet!).

Re: MK2 Jetta..I LOVE MY GT <3
yeah, you're right!
Ive got a new front valance to go on there, but it really needs two front wings aswell as they are rotten at the bottom.
Als has a LOT of filler in the rear quarter panel so that needs grnfing out, sanding, dent pushing out properly and filled. Polar white used on the bottom of all doors and rear quarterpanels instead of alpine white etcetc...
SO much to do, and being at uni = no money or time, so its gonna stay rat I'm afraid!

Re: MK2 Jetta..I LOVE MY GT <3
A few updates:
Yeh.
As the weather has been so glorious i decided it was time to lower the jetta.
Bought some -80mm springs a while back so set about changing them
Removing the old springs was a b1tch without that little tool the get that wierd nut thing of - oh well. Used a screwdriver and a hammer and some longnose pliers and after 10 mins i was done.
Its not as low as i would like it, but it will do. Would have cut a single coil out of the new springs, but i reckon -80mm is enough on standard shocks...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Pleased considering the springs cost me £30 delivered!
So yeah.
Made a couple of stencils
Oh No!
