Hi!
Hi everyone, i thought i'd introduce myself on here and tell you what i have acquired, a 1987 vw jetta import from South Africa. My sons have named him Ernie! He has been over in uk since 1990 and on a sorn since 2005. A friend of mine had him hiding in the back of his garage and i saw him and instantly had to get him! A few cups of coffee and some bribing and he was mine! Ernie has now got a full mot and is on the road as my main car! A bit different than the car i swapped for him.....An Audi A4 Avant lowered and chipped! He is much more fun to drive once u get used to not having power steering manual choke and keep fit windows!! The only problem ive found is that the heater comes on when it wants to and then leaks fluid out!!I guess it must be the pipes have give up feeding the little rad??? any help would be greatly appreciated!! I will put some pics on here asap also!

Re: Hi!
Hi Dad and welcome to the forum.
By the sounds of it you`ve got a dodgy heater matrix, it might be worth having a proper look at it as these have been known to fail and blow hot water all over the drivers feet, my mates Jetta did this some years ago when he was on the motorway and ended up writing the car off.. They`re not dear to replace, about £25 IIRC but you will have to strip the dash out to get to it.

Re: Hi!
Hi, have had a look at the heater today and the rad is knackered and the blower has died! I let the engine get to working temperature then it started to steam up in the cab. Put some rad block in it and has stopped the leak but still steaming up and no fan working! Atleast i know what it is now. Very fun car to drive though!

Re: Hi!
The fans easy enough to take out without having to take the car apart but unfortunately the matrix is harder to get at. Do the fans work on full speed or are they totally dead?

Re: Hi!
Hi again, the fans dont work at all, so they must either be dead or dodgy connection? I have taken the switch off and cleaned the terminals, all the wiring to it looks ok up top so the problem must be fan end? It wont stop raining here at the minute, so as i dont have a garage anymore i'll have to wait till its stopped to take it apart!!! 1.6 TDi Gromit? I take it its a mk3-4 then yes?
