Re: 1989 mk 2 jetta....1.6tx. march update.
well, not completely, just that theres hardly any ever posts on here.
Re: 1989 mk 2 jetta....1.6tx. march update.
well its about time for an update.......
had a weird few months there with not to much happening, mainly having the knee done, and then recovery
also xmas in between, so lazy big fat boy was in town....( thats what the missus calls me )
this update contains boring things like engine service parts, and other un-inportant items so if your easly bored look
away now......
i have taken the pics with my phone and what a goddame nightmare its been getting them onto photobucket and then here...
21/2 hours....the missus is spitting at me now, :scared: :scared:
anyhoo this is where it all begins for me, ( i will also use these pics as some sort of proof of work incase i need to sell )
first port of call was to dig the auld girl out........
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then had to move the stored up parts ( might have been oot a action but im like a wee squirrel )
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
after what seemed like hours she was out and ready for some juice... :nahnah:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then i had to remove the wheels, so i had to have a pic of what it may look like.....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
the jurys out still...!!!!
next was to fit the centre caps..
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and then the rear vw badge that the previous owner had polished over...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
well onto under the bonnet....
really impressed with the condition under here, so a couple of pics of the inner wings etc
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
some random shots of how original the car is ..( alternator ...)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
now we move on to the serviced bits......( boring i know, but ive wasted this much time now you have to see em ) :lmao:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
cant understand why previous owner didnt use genuine parts.. :scared: :scared: anyhoo sorted now.. :ok:
off with the thermostat for radiator flushing,
the pic of the two bolts are from the thermostat housing, look how new they look.....im really taken with how rot free
this wee car is ..
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and then the plugs.......summit not right here.. :yep:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
not burning correctly......not right mix me thinks.. :blurb: :blurb:
well thats it for noo...........sorry about the pics ( taken with my phone )
i will update as i move on,
mind throw yer two bobs worth in..

back to the auld bus...
previously when i had the carb off i noticed a few hairline cracks in the mount,
but after checking it i decided to leave it on as it didnt look as if it was perished right through...
big mistake really, as there was a flat spot when accelerating...
so a wee present from the vw santa, and it was off with the carb again..
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
now down to business....
the fronts being changed..
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
now for the rears..........
but a wee helper came to visit... :scared: :scared: :scared:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
having never taken a back seat from a jetta i didnt know what i was letting myself in for...
2 hours of mayhem, banging , and a lot of swearing later......and a visit to another forum to find out how to remove..
this is how tight it is in there,,
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
got there in the end... afew scratches and some bent metal later... :scared: :scared: :scared:
and all that for this..
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
now at this point i would show the end result....( the dropped pictures )
but it took so long it was pitch black................................so pics to follow in the morn...

Jetta looks cool, period wheels look good, so pleased its being cared for! Non standard service parts weren't used for many services as far as I know, still can't find service history but still looking, will let u know.
