Hi mate
2 things , the brake pressure compensator was 6 months old if that when it was on that scrapped car and that engine is the best G60 engine that ever lived, the valve stem seals were set with a vernier height gauge and theyre all within 0.01mm. The valves were lapped and I can guarantee that the engine will ast you for years to come. Now get back to building it. thx

Hi Manny how's things? Cheers for the info, I remember you saying about the brake pressure regulator back when I bought it .. can't believe how long ago that was now! Engine sure is a gd un Should be even better with the lightened and balanced bottom end - adding a 4branch and a few other goodies so should be even quicker too, although it will be dragging around a car with a big arse now

Re: Mk2 Jetta Lx ... with added G60 power :)
Was thinking about the engine and decided I wasn't happy with the unpainted parts on the bottom around the sump, so sorted that out, then I got all the ancillaries out, which I have dropped off at the powder coaters and will be picking up in a couple of days
Last (I hope) bit of paint on the block;

Box of grubby bits soon to be looking fresh ^_^

Next on the agenda is to get underneath it (tomorrow I hope) and get rid of the last of the rust, then weld the bay and drop it off for a coat of paint. Really need to crack on and get it done, taking a lot longer than planned.

My great friends in the derbyshire region need to get off their asses then
Made a little progress, decided that I need to remove the wings to get the 'bay painted properly (no gloating please dirtydubber) so got them off and had a look underneath too.
Very little rust in the usual rust trap on the o/s so that's good;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And none on the n/s
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Bit of a hole on the underside;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Bit scabby on the n/s jacking point but is cleaning up ok so will apply some new seamsealer;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Continuing with the 'bay;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
More tomorrow

Re: Mk2 Jetta Lx ... with added G60 power :)
Im still here with open eyes, as for gloating as if i would ? Glade to see that you popped the fronts off at least you know in your mind that she will last all you gain from me is more respect its going to look great in the end bud keep going.
Re: Mk2 Jetta Lx ... with added G60 power :)
Cheers mate, it's proving a little hard to get motivated to weld all the holes in the engine bay up, especially when it's bloody freezing in the garage, but I keep on dreaming about driving it so will get there in the end! Managed to blag tomorrow off work so hopefully get quite a bit done this weekend
In the meantime I've had the inlet manifold and the water pump vapour blasted and they've come up brilliantly. If anyone in the West Yorkshire area wants anything doing the company is 'Vapour Blast' in Golcar near Huddersfield - 01484 646971. Highly recommend them.

After (pretty much better than new!);

I know how you feel about welding Simeon, i restored a 59 beetle & i was sick of welding after that .
That Vapour blasting looks like its done an amazing job, what are the costs like for having it done if you don't mind me asking. Cheers Paul

Paul, '59 beetle sounds nice, I was much more an aircooled guy myself till I discovered a little thing called a G-lader
The cost of the two bits above was £30. My mate just had his 16v head done and that cost £40 - come up amazingly well though.
Progress on the 'bay;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Lots still to do (as always)

Re: Mk2 Jetta Lx ... with added G60 power :)
Top work mate seeing the work on the battery tray reminds me in need to get mine cleaned up and painted, do you need to laquer the parts after vapour blasting to keep the finish?

Re: Mk2 Jetta Lx ... with added G60 power :)
Cheers mate You just cover the parts in wd40 and work it in with a rag to keep the finish, although I imagine if you laquer them they'll last even longer.

Re: Mk2 Jetta Lx ... with added G60 power :)
Just read my first post and noticed that I'd written this;
How things change eh
Anyway, some progress has been made, but as ever other things seem to take up lots of my 'working on Jetta' time so not as much has been done as I'd like.
Finished most of the welding so cracked on with grinding it back;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Stripped the alternator so the casing is ready for blasting and paint;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Decided to re-underseal the inner wings so got to clean this lot off otherside is done now though;
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Got Tuesday/Wednesday off work so will hopefully be ready for paint very soon!
