Mk2 Jetta gti
I have just joined the forum so thought I had best introduce my car.
I have just bought this off a chap in redruth, for the rather reasonable price of 500 pounds,
needs lots and lots of stuff sorting out, but its a pretty good place to start,
has a few bits of surface rust here and there,
but nothing major and already have got a quote for respray in the winter 8-) ,
so will be getting all the body work sorted out while its warmer over the summer,
Its pretty good mechanically just has some issues getting going first thing in morning,
but then so did i when i was 23
Its had a few things done to it, a G60 master cylinder, 16v hubs and disks up front, fk ak coilies and untill I buy a stendard one, a solid front engine mount (dont like it)
Oh yeah and it has one of the cleanest mk2 interiors ive seen
any ways some pics

Have loads of plans but mainly want to get it rust free before next winter.

I would of loved a 16v but its not very often you see an 8v jetta for sale let alone a 16v
I was wondering if they were the original doors

Re: Mk2 Jetta gti
Hi ya buddy welcome to the JOC lovely GTi you have there in the best color (im not biasd) Ive just had a look on Etka and they dont list 90 spec doors for you car they list the original qtr light doors like mine so i would say they arent the original ones.

Hello and thanks,
thats cool about the doors as i prefer the doors with split window, will have to get some before I get the paint done over the winter

Re: Mk2 Jetta gti
Hi there lovely colour got a soft spot for alpine white same as ant, but i feel the urge to chuck my two pence in on the door front as it does depend on year of manufacture i have a valver on a E plate an it has what people like to call 90 spec doors on it!? I was slightly confused about this when i bought it back in 2000 but the car only had two owners from new. I ask my local dealer to check it out for me and it turned out the car had been produced in early jan 1988 and was factory fitted with single glass front doors in germany as i was expecting so my guess is that your doors will probably been the genuine items .
Feel free to check mine Ant Reg is = E819 MVV
First registered = 19/04/1988
Chassis no = 16ZJW503413
Let us know what you find coz i never dug any further.

Re: Mk2 Jetta gti
Mine was first registered in december 87 so not sure how long before this date it would have been produced, am curious now as i want to keep the body and trim as it was when produced

Re: Mk2 Jetta gti
Going through Etka it sugests that your car should have the front qtr lights as they didnt change till 1988 so arent listed for your year and yours was registerd befor that (16/12/1987 ). i have done the same comparrisonn on Etka for yours aswell Dirtydubber and yours like you say is registerd as an 88 and they dont list the qtr light doors for that one so yours would have factory fitted 90 specs
Pre 1988 Part no example 4dr left door 167 831 051 C
1988 on Part no example 4dr left door 167 831 051 E

Re: Mk2 Jetta gti
Cheers Ant it knew i could rely on you to do the hunting for me . But on a more serious note take a pic of the hinge bolts i havent met many people that repaint them after fitting new doors plus this might be something that Ant my be able to help with but the rear doors are a bit of a give away too as im sure that early doors didnt have holes for pop on door trims like you have i think im right in saying that all early doors were fitted with stick on mouldings????? It could be the case that all four doors were changed but then i would expect some damage to the paint on the hinge bolts Dont no im just chucking ideas out there...
re2 what have you done

Re: Mk2 Jetta gti
Thanks for the info, i wouldnt of had a clue where to start looking for all that
I guess the hunt for some good early doors has just begun Should be fun
A wee update though, picked these up yesterday

So no longer have two anoying holes in front door cards they were a bit grubby but cleaned up good, one is missing a little tab off the top but is fine once screwed in place
