Hi Guys, just found this site, Have a Jan 88 Jetta 16 V GTi
Hi everyone,
Found this little gem about 16 months ago now, but have really only had time to do a few essential repairs, and tidy her up a bit (she was minging, children and food/sweets, detritis, everywhere etc.)
Beginning to look respectable at last for her 79000 genuine miles, but suffered abuse over the last 2 years of the previous owners tenure. I have not noticed any spurious or non genuine parts, and guess that it may be the most original one of these in the country.
I am only too pleased to discuss, and share photos and experience with other members, and look forward to joining in some of the clubs activities. I also have a 1988 GTi Golf (full leather), a 1981 Mk1 Golf GLS 74k from new. and my Son has a Golf Mk1 GL 1983, voted best daily driver GB.
I hope this is of interest to the members, will post pics when I work out how.

Hi guys,
Well the Jetta 16v doesn't really get touched all that often, it just sits there minding its own business and every couple of months starts up first time on the button, and gets driven in anger lol. But today I wanted to wash it as it was looking a little dusty if Im honest.
So started washing it and opened up the fuel filler flap to scrub the inside. The rubber part filled up with water and it would not drain so I knew it was blocked. This was the perfect cue for me to reluctantly take out the fuel filler rubber and clean it up.
Expecting the worst I was met with this:

pretty bad this is about half of the mud lol

So, started scrubbing and hosing down and was very pleasantly surprised to find there wasn't a spot of rust in there at all. Yippee!!

Well happy with it, just need to do the rest of the arches properly and give the paint another shining up as that famous tornado red has faded again.

More updates soon as i really want to give this car some attention.
