Say hello to my mk1..
I'm now the proud owner of an '81 mk1 GLS (some of you will have spotted it on ebay a couple of weeks back). It had had one owner for the past 27 years, and only his father-in-law before that, who passed away when the car was less than a year old. It has 73k on the clock and a full VAG service history from new, every MOT, receipt, every service stamp, tax disc etc. Here are some photos of it now it's had a good t-cut and polish..

To be honest, it was a better deal than i'd ever hoped for, I took a total gamble (I found it on ebay with two hours left), and had to make a 320 mile round trip to go and fetch it, but god it was worth it, the condition is incredible. It came fitted with a brand new weber carb, battery, and a full tank of petrol.
The Lovely old guy who sold it was gutted to see it go, he was only selling it because of poor health. To say i'm smug would be an understatement! I cannot believe how well it drives, it hasn't even got the infamous VW 1st/2nd gear crunch (my 1st ever?), it has literally never been driven hard.

Re: Say hello to my mk1..
Thanks for the warm welcome lads!
I DID have big plans for it, but it'd be such a shame to start binning bits and modifying it. I think i'm just going to drop it 40mm or so, and get some nice rims on there - i've got some brand new g60 steels to go on in the mean time, but I really want something a bit classy - some Porsche Fuchs perhaps. They will be the only mods though, I really like it the way it is. I do need a few interior parts as replacements though - a window winder trim, a rear view mirror (both blue plastic, just to make them extra hard to find - although that is part of the fun!), and a new drivers seat, as it's all torn at the bolster. I also need new covers for the period Hella fogs as they are letting it down a bit.
