It's all your fault
Hi everyone,
There I was minding my own business, on holidays, doing a bit of gardening when it wasn't raining and suddenly I came across your site.
As I got more into the banter, chat and photos the more I resolved to get the spanners out.
Off came the dust covers on my red Mk1 Jetta bought new in 1984.
Very little rust thanks to the Waxol I coated her in from time to time.
First thing a new battery, injectors were all blocked - now reconditioned.
Fuel tank full of muck after laying unused for six years - now cleaned out.
Latest episode is the CAV pump is in bad shape but fixable - now being worked on as I want to keep her as original as possible.
Just wanted to say thanks for the kick start and will keep you posted.

Re: It's all your fault
Looks like you've got a potential minter on your hands there. V jealous, not only would I love a mk1 but a workshop and four post lift too!
Seems to be a few mk1's poppin up from across the waters, I assume from the plate thats where you are. Good work for hanging onto her all these years.

Re: It's all your fault
Hello Jaysteed,
'84 Mk1 Jetta
Lovely little car, always did well for me.
Son's teeth marks still in the dash where he got hungry 21years ago.
Has a 2 year old daughter of his own now and drives a '01 Bora.
Workshop:- an empty silo where I do all my own servicing.
Four post lift:- always wanted one bought secondhand two years ago.
Location:- Mid-Ulster - still a few Mk1 Jettas around here but getting rare.
I hope to get her on the road within the next month.
More pictures to follow.

Only 150000 but as you can see the CAV pump is gone and not repairable.
Will stick the engine/gearbox from the donor car into her, replace shocks, brakes and piping. Cleaning up the tank from donor and replacing. Also cleaning up and powder coating the back beam and various bits and pieces.
Got a bush kit from Ebay and will give the engine bay a good cleaning up.
I intend to do up the original engine and gearbox and stick them back into her.
Yes, brand new, 1984, Great motor. Body is almost perfect.
Sorry won't be ready for the show on the 2nd. Maybe next year.

Yes, 150,000 but it's not perfect.
I'll take a few photos at the weekend and let you see her faults.
