New MK2 Jetta owner

Hi all,

New Jetta owner here ('86 1.6 EZ engine), bought it a couple of weeks ago and where to begin - it's shagged in the engine department - oil seals and steams gone, choke problems, idling problems, exhaust manifold gasket gone, oil leak around the filter, no idea when it was last serviced or cam belt was done and the windscreen washer tube is snapped. Plus gear linkage is vague as vague.
Then heater matrix is knackered (suprisingly!), interior doesn't match (different drivers seat), stereo doesn't work, leak in footwell, sunroof is a universal pop up that's been glued shut.
Rust/ damp in the boot (fixable), rust on the arches, rust on the lower read quarter. Paint's generally a bit flat around the back end, and the wheels are naff. Other than that the bodywork is reasonably good, it's a great shell.

But despite this, I rather like it! It just feels nice, it's comfy (Even being 6'6")

It should be a good little project, considering I only paid £500 with a full MOT and a few months tax I was rather happy with that. First port of call - engine swap or possibly just a new head and carb, I haven't decided yet, it would be nice to not have loads of smoke coming out of the exhaust.

But anyway, it'll be good to get to know some fellow Jetta owners.

Welcome fella car sounds a little poorly but to be honest thats all the more reason to be excited it just means youve got the oppertunity to make her your own so good find let us know how she comes along. Welcome to the forums

Welcome to the club bud, Tune the 1600 haha, well some of the guys on clubgti have got 125 out of there 1600's with quite sensible and cheapish mods around 100bhp is easy just exhaust intake head work and a Gti cam does the job. On a D plate she's an early shell so rot shouldn't be an issue Early ones were built sooo much better but parts are harder to find so look after what it still has on it coz it will be a pain to replace oh and enjoy  .
