Post by rowlesy Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:54 pm

been away from the jet set for a while! and since the golf died i decided i couldnt be arsed to fix it again so put it up for sale as it was. i had a few offers on it but the one i went for was a swap with a jetta tx! tax and mot and most of all it was a runner! said to have a webber carb on it with a gti cam apparantly? the carb turned out to be a pierburg with the pull down unit and waxstat removed and a manua choke cable fitted! s'ok at the moment but i think it may cause a few problems during winter! what the seller didnt tell me was the grey jetta gti interior looked like its been stored outside and was really grubby! oh and there was a set of vented 256's and braided hoses all round!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

i wasnt about to let my alloys go in with the deal so i sat outside his yard in the dark swapping them over from the golf! then the first drive was a bit of a surprize to say the least! most people after fitting coilovers get the tracking re-aligned? not this chump! anyway easy fix ,just hope theres no other bodges...............

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

only other one so far was the pulleys being miles out! was gunna fit a new belt as it was making noises on tick-over but found the above before i got chance to do anything! the bottom pully fitted was the one on the right! so i fitted the one on the left to bring em back into the right position!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

just the seams left to sort while its still pretty dry outside! dug out the bubbles then treated the rust and repainted to keep the red stuff at bay! will have to be done propperly soon but this'll do for now!

just the interior to sort now! (oh and smoking the lights for that murdered look!) looking for a 5 door golf interior so i can get longer stuff in the boot! guna reinforce the shelf and brace the rear turrets and fab up brackets to hold the backrest up a-la golf!

on another note, anybody recognise the car? its got a joc sticker in the back screen?

Ah so this is what youve been upto Suspect Suspect Looks like a interesting project. If you are keeping with 1600 I would keep with the Pierburg it will offer better performance over a stock replacement Weber plus Weber have discontinued most of there replacemant carbs for VAGs so spare parts are starting to get a little tuff to get. Plus i would change the down pipe, manifold and system for a pb gti item and it should be got for around 90/95bh. Im well interested in this thread keep us posted. bounce

If you go for a gti system then a would strongly suggest a Ernst down pipe as there the only ones we have found to fit all the others seem to be really good at hitting the stearing rack or gaiter Mad . Also if you use a PB manifold with the six bolt hole fixing you should be able to bore it out a bit to get even better gas flow Very Happy .

been and got this last night..................

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

mk3 gti interior (and some trim from cacado)

so took out the grey gti seats and made a start on fitting the new seats!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

fronts a bit grubby but black is easier on the eye! and easier to clean when you've got two springers! then set about stripping and cleaning down the new pas rack! hopefully got all the bits to retrofit it!

Hi, this is my old car, although there not the seats I sold it with!

As for the tracking, the tie rods were knackered and I didn't have the time to change them. I've still got some new ones and ball joints in the garage along with the original carb. I did fit a GTi cam and weber so not sure what happened to the carb Question The bottom pulley was a quick fix to keep me on the road and I did tell the buyer all of this but he obviously didn't want to fix it up. I think he had a golf he was doing up so maybe he just wanted the seats!

Here's one of my old threads about the jetta:

Glad to see it getting the care and attention it deserved.

theres no strength in the rear shelf! if there was they'd put braceing under the shelf between the rear turrets like the vento! the back window would of gone thru by now! been a couple of weeks now! frames were cut off the seats and made narrower to fit the runners! and the front rail has been spaced from the seat to get the base up! all the original functions (tilt and height) work off the levers on the side!
