hey everyone i'm robbie and have just joined so thought id post some pics of my jetta, this being the jetta owners club and all!Smile
the cars currently over in spain at the minute because it was my uncles who live out there and when i got it off him it wasnt running, so i spent a week of my summer leave trying to fix it and cleaning it up.
its a fairly straight car and has been sat in his impressively sized yet saddly unappreiciated garage for the last 2ish years, but does have some rust holes that really need looking and are the first on the list of things to do when i get back on uk soil, it also has some some crappy looking alloys on it that i'm almost immediately gonna be replacing with banded steels and some nasty looking big bumpers(sorry to peeps that like them)so gonna be putting smallies and a splitter back on!
from what i can tell from crawling all over it for a week is that its been dropped on coilovers, and is braced up forward and aft, its also been striped and rebuild around 10+ years ago and was apparently magazine featured, though my uncle has misplaced the copy that came with it when he bought it, also the engine was dropped out of it and receivced a tasty lil rebuild, whilst the whole car was resprayed from a light metallic blue to a dark metallic racing green and was debadged at the same time, also the interior is full leather and all the windows electric and it has keyless entry dont you know!

unfortuneatly due to me not being able to get it running whilst i was over there(i dont speak spainish and this makes parts finding a right pain in the ass) i had to have it taken to a english chatting garage and left it in my uncles capable hands of getting all the bits replaced that we couldnt find ourself like the all the relays were tits, and the alternator sucked the power out the battery in acouple of hours which was kinda the opposite of what we wanted, and as of last friday she was running all nice and with only 200 euros leaving my bank!Smile so now we are gonna register her in spain and get her an ITV (spainish MOT) so my uncle can insure her under his business as a company car making it legal to drive back to the uk without tax or mot, until i re-register her in the uk and test and tax her! unless you guys know of any loops holes for bringing uk cars back from europe after the test and tax have ran out!?

now all i have to do is wait until november and i can get some more leave booked in to drive her back!

and i would whack some pics up but for the life of me i cant work it oot!lols!

Welcome! Sounds like a nice car!

You need to host your photos on Photobucket.com or flicker...or some photo hosting site, and then use the URL link to attach photos here.
I think there is a how to somewhere here, but also look at the photobucket site for a how to, they can help.

Looking forward to the pic's! cheers

7.5" wide without problems-ish 40-60mm should be ok, stretch tyres for tuck & more lowes will be yours.

After that arch rolling/modifying.
Seen 9"s done but not slammed as they stick out & you lose the lock on steering.
All depends on driving style/what the car will be used for etc.. you can tell I'm pushing 40 Laughing
Suck it & see fella with some coilovers & you'll find out then what you need doing.

my car remains in spain!:-( the garage that was working on her are shoot to be frank and didnt have her ready when i went over a couple of weeks ago, i even ended up ordering the fuel distributor and new fuel lines for them!
but its all good for when it comes to haggling over the price!
so the new plan is to have her shipped ove on a car transporter in the new year!:-)
cant be doing with all this waiting!

HEY GUYS, the jetta has finally arrived back onto her native soil, that mainky to a guy called mike guston who sorted just about everything out for me whilst i was out the country! :-)
i genuinely dont know what the garage i had left her with has been doing for the last 8 months bur it doesnt look like alot. the biggest snag i have at the minute is that the toad alarm thats been fitted has packed in working and i cant get the central locking to work or disarm the immobiliser. i've tried changing the key fob battery just in case but to no avail. of course non of this makes a blind bit of difference due the sad lack of non leaking fuel return pipes and numbers 1 and 4 injector lines being missing. oh and one of the union bolts on the fuel metering unit being awol. but on the upside just about everything else works with the exception of a blown o/s indicator lamp.
i've managed to source most of the parts that i need with the exception of the fuel return(well i say the return line it could supply), do anyone know of any good breakers yards in and around the brighton area? and also any good veedub spefic parts websites? any help would be greatly appreicated. :-)
i will hopefully be putting up so fresh pics in the next few weeks as the parts start to arrive and the work progresses.

right well, the3 toad alarm is no longer a problem cause i traced back the wiring at and bypassed it, and replaced the section of the ignition live wire that had been cut out to fit the alarm, i whacked a battery in and give it a quick turn on the starter and its all good. there is also a car alarm specialist just round the corner thats been recommended to me so onces shes running again i'll have her round there for a nice new clifford!
in other news the handbrake is now fixed and working a treat as is the gearstick that just wasnt even connected and was missing the bush that the rod selector sits in, so as i had it off and apart i changed up all the badly worn parts, nice to know i can change gear if i want to now.
but when i had her jacked up i did happen to notice that to drivers side top mount had disappeared in the wheel arch so new top mounts are on there way. unforuneatly i still have absolutely no idea how to get the wheels off due to a sadly missing locking wheel nut socket any suggestions would be helpful.
the replacment fuel supply and return pipes arrived yesturday so are now fitted and waiting for the new injector lines and a union bolt and we have ourselves a complete fuel system, which will hopefully she her being fired up in the not so distant future.
the dash wasnt working and after checking the fuses i pulled the instrument cluster out and acouple of the circuits had burned out, so a new one was ordered which was the wrong year so straight back onto ebay it went.
ive found that thr rust on the boot is alot worse than i first thought so am on the prowl for a replacement panel, ive also popped out the interior and taken off the front bumper and grill cause they are missing most of there clips so i'm gonna use this chance to source up some small bumpers hopefully with a sexy little red strip all round.

now for some pics ;-)[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It was dry stored in my uncles garage in Spain for about 18 months and then for 8 months outside a garage over the winter which wouldn't have helped, as for before that I haven't a clue. The spot at the top of the bonnet was there before it was dry stored and I'm guessing that the seal had been rotten for as long just not noticed. Inside the the drivers side of the engine bay I think is because the drain was blocked so kept filing up with and caused the rot.

have done a little bit on the jetta today, the fuel injection lines were delivered today and i was shocked to find that like a complete chump id ordered up the 8v, not the 16v lines so back on the hunt. bad starts aside i have managed to taken of the body trims without braking anything so its not all bad, luckily they weren't hiding anything to nasty just a couple of rusty bit at the back of rear wheel arches. all i need to do now is source up some small bumpers and some rear wheel arch spats and i'm happy Very Happy although i was wondering if the bumper irons are standard between the big bumpers and smalls????
now for some pics.

tyre fitting firms often have a special gun for removing locking wheel bolts- had this done in the past due to leaving my key on the roof and driving off- whoops!

alright guys, time for an update!
not really been able to do all to much in the last few weeks, i'm away until the end of the month with work so the car is sat in the garage awaiting my return. but i did manage to get some things done be fore i left, ive treated the rust on the sunroof and and somehow managed not to get primer everywhereive also rust treat the rear arches and the the rusty bits around the boot, i've primed up the rear arches but left the boot as it was only a tester and i'm replacing it all with new metal.

i also cleaned up the seats with some leather cleaner and gave them a right good going over with leather treatment and i have to say that all the seats came up amazing, then i popped off the door cards and did the same to them but have held off on replacing the rear door card cause the electric rear windows dont work but i've managed the get the front ones moving upo and down.

i also sourced up and early 7 slat front grill thanks to dave(re2) so a big thank you there, as for the rest of the bumpers valance and spoilers they will have to wait. and ive finally got a set of clocks that work so the dash will be going back as soon as im back!

thats about it for now i will post upo some pics in the near future when i can.

I lost my locking wheel nut key not long ago, i got mine off by using an old 19mm socket which was a tight fit on the nut tapped it on till it pretty much covered the nut then used a breaker bar to free it off, also as much of a pig of a job that it is i'd drop the headlining down to see if the rust has spread into the drain tubes for the sunroof as they're a nightmare to repair

i was thinking of dropping down the headliner as i does look like it may have spread down the the drain, but hopefully not far or deep. the first thing i thought was to use an old socket cause ive had to do it before with my old car, but its got the propper uber gay bolts that have a spinning collar on them to stop you doing just that!lol! i have a welder sorted out for the week i have off so am gonna bodge together some bits of steel bar and weld them into a socket! not great but should work!
