It’s Volksfest time again! The current venue of North Weald, and midsummer date, has seen some of the most enjoyable one day shows anywhere in the UK. This event has now firmly developed its style and content, to provide a great day out for all VW enthusiasts. The first Volksfest was of the most popular of the early ‘new wave’ of VW events. And this show is the direct descendent of the original Volksfest. Shows around the country seem to have happily misappropriated the Volksfest name (and associated good will!). This has occurred with little thought for the fact that the consistently popular events which had made the Volksfest name synonymous with a damn good show, were staged by virtue of a great deal of work, by a great number of people. None of whom were or are involved with any of the various other shows now bearing the Volksfest name. In the spirit of co-operation however, when we returned Volksfest to the calendar, we elected to call it London Volksfest, whilst still identifying it as the original Volksfest event. As long as regional shows continue to use their location Wales, Bristol, Plymouth etc. before the Volksfest name, we will continue to play our part, and this show will continue to be known as London Volksfest. But the first and original Volksfest in the UK, from which this, and only this show traces its lineage. It was also the first show of any kind to be run in association with Volksworld Magazine.

Volksfest has always celebrated all things VW, never including any major content which was not highly VW oriented. The show made a massive leap forward in the last few of years, with the return of vw drag racing, in the form of a ‘Run What You Brung’ meeting. This enables any visitors with their driving licence and the signing on fee to run their own vehicle on the dragstrip. Without losing the focus on VWs, it is fantastic to see our cars alongside all-comers, from Hot Rods, or Classic Fords, to Rolls Royces on the track. This year the formula will be much the same, with the dragstrip, the superb Show and Shine, which just gets better and better, The Traders, Autojumble, Cars for Sale, Bar and Food Area, Club Displays, in fact everything needed for a hugely enjoyable VW day out . . . come along and enjoy!
