| So why would I do this to my engine bay?, despite having to much time on my hands and nothing else to do!

Great fun, Not! Thought my engine was coming along nicely, it was running well and when I got back from santa pod very quietly after I changed the ht leads, so why start taking it apart?

Well because of this!

Picture not very good sorry. But this is a very worn out part. Just one of the knackered bits.
For those who know what this is sorry for the explaination but for the rest of you. The engine was running very well except when I pressed the clutch when there was this horrible grinding noise. I thought it was something to do with the clutch so changed that and the clutch cable but ended up being the part above. That part for those who don't know is the center crank bracket, the one that holds the thrust washer. This washer was well worn away and so causing too much crank movement, causing lots of bottom end damage. So does anyone have any clever ideas on how to sort this? Or a cheap 1.8 8v lump they would like to sell?
Please Help! I want to get this fixed asap. Please Help! |

| | Hi vent thanks for the sympathy. Think I may have a plan for the engine now but we'll just have to wait and see. I think I should make the best out of a bad situation and try something new. Give you something to race against next time you want to do the 1/4. Just hope I can get it done quickly cause I want to make the Northampton show at the end of August. |

| | 2L bottom end if you want a straight swap, VR or ABF if you've got every weekend free until Ed38. Use the old crank as a DVD rack. |

| Hi Jay, Yes I was thinking 2lt. I was told its the audi 2lt lump I need to match up best to my digifant 1.8 8v head. I was also told that to get best results I would need to have the engine blueprinted so I'm looking for someone to do that cheap for me at the moment. Can't use the old crank I don't think because of all the damage the knackered thrust washer has done.
If anyone knows anyone local who can help with any of this work please let us know, cheers. |
